After a short struggle in the Singapore Grand Prix, Max Verstappen returned to his clinical form in Japan, securing his second world title after finishing first. In this season so far, Verstappen has won a total of 14 races. Therefore, he is the clear favorite going into the Brazillian GP. If Verstappen clinches the first position again in Sao Paulo, it would not only be his milestone 15th race win in the 2022 F1 season, but also it will create a perfect ten races streak for Red Bull.

This weekend in Sao Paulo features the season\’s last sprint and penultimate Grand Prix, where Red Bull\’s winning streak may be snapped by Mercedes or Ferrari. This weekend, Red Bull has the edge in both the Sprint and the Brazilian Grand Prix. Verstappen has taken home eight of the previous nine Grands Prix victories, breaking a few records in the process, with Sergio Perez taking home the Singapore victory. Red Bull has a chance to duplicate Mercedes\’ accomplishment from Brazil 2018 to France 2019 with a tenth straight victory. In the second half of 2022, Verstappen\’s racing speed was at an all-time high, and his competitors offered no resistance.

Since five of the seven champions in Sao Paulo from 2014 to 2021 started from pole position, qualifying is important here as well. Despite having competitive hardware, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton are the exceptions. Verstappen, being the favorite to win the Sprint, is hence the favorite to start first in the Grand Prix. Conversely, Ferrari will be more competitive with Red Bull. However, they will need luck and favorable projections to come their way. Naturally, Mercedes will as well.

Sprints were first introduced in F1 in 2021. They are basically condensed races that determine the starting lineup for the primary grand Prix. A few weeks ago, Formula One introduced the preposition to increase the number of sprint races from three to six in the next season. However, a few frontline F1 drivers, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, are not happy with the new addition. In fact, Verstappen has urged the Formula One chiefs to end the sprints for good.
