The New York Yankees are in the midst of their worst season in the past three-decade history. The last the team dropped out of .500 this late into the season was in 1995. Naturally, the playoff odds are also diminishing with each passing day. With over 30 games in hand, covering the 8.5 games deficit to clinch the playoff wildcard spot looks a daunting task.

There may come a time when the Yankees fall out of the playoff race even before the regular season comes to an end. Under these circumstances, the team can use those remaining meaningless games to hand a chance to a few prospects who are shining in the minor league currently. Moreover, as per rumors, the club has already begun making multiple moves.

The New York Yankees have made headlines by promoting prospects Oswald Peraza and Everson Pereira on Monday. The duo is likely to be played as regular starters going ahead into the season. Meanwhile, another top prospect of the Yanks farm system is gearing up for a major league promotion. 20-year-old outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez made waves during this year’s spring training. He was in contention for a roster spot. But the lack of Triple-A experience worked against him. Nonetheless, the Martian has been making waves in the Double-A. Playing with the Somerset Patriots this season, Jasson has hit .254 with 15 home runs, 66 RBIs, and .781 in 109 games.

With Peraza and Everson moving up, a space opened for the prospect. On Monday, the New York Yankees promoted Jasson Dominguez to Triple-A, moving him one step closer to the major league. If Jasson aces in Scranton, the next step will be the Yankees. However, it is unlikely to happen this season. Maybe next year’s spring training will be a career-defining moment for the 20-year-old. He has displayed the required level of skillset to secure a place in the big league roster. Minimal Triple-A experience should be enough for Dominguez to earn a promotion. Having said that, maintaining health and consistency will be a key factor for the outfielder. The major league is a different ball game altogether, and one can never be fully prepared to tackle high-end pitching.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees fans finally got a reason to celebrate amid the team’s horrendous 2023 MLB season. Jasson Dominguez is undoubtedly a fan favorite even before his debut. The fans have been demanding his inclusion into the big leagues for long. Hence, the prospect’s Triple-A promotion came as an encouraging sign for the dispirited fans.

The Yankee fan base took to social media to express their delight and also wished Jasson Dominguez the best. All things said and done, the road to big leagues will get tougher for the prospect from here. Rising through Triple-A is not a cakewalk. He has to do well in Scranton for the rest of the season and also ace the next year’s spring training to at least be in contention for the ultimate promotion.
