With Jazz Chisholm Jr’s trade from the Miami Marlins, the New York Yankees have finally made a move ahead of the mid-season deadline closure on August 1. However, many insiders claimed that the Yankee front office is just getting started as more incoming moves are lined up for the postseason-contending team.

That being said, pitching upgrades still remain the need of the hour for the New York Yankees. From the bullpen to the starting rotation, a strong throwing arm will boost the team’s pitching depth significantly. Interestingly, in an unexpected link-up rumour, the Bronx Bombers are apparently interested in two-time CY Young pitcher currently employed by Giants.

In a shocking revelation, Jon Heyman of the NY Post claimed that the New York Yankees were amongst the six teams that approached the San Francisco Giants to enquire about starting pitcher and two-time CY Young winner Blake Snell’s availability at the upcoming trade deadline. Snell, who spent most of the off-season as a free agent, settled for a two-year $62 million contract with the Giants after top suitors, the Yankees, refused to offer a long-term deal. Moreover, Blake Snell missed spring and a large portion of the 2024 season due to multiple injuries. However, despite owing 5.19 ERA, Snell is showing signs of improvement since the comeback from the second IL sting on July 9. He owns a 0.75 ERA in the last four starts.

Moreover, on Saturday, Blake Snell delivered his best start of the season by pitching six scoreless innings and striking out a career-high 15 batters against the Rockies. While Snell does not expect to be moved at the upcoming trade deadline, the experienced pitcher is getting mentally prepared for anything and everything. “I ain’t going nowhere. At least, I believe that. I don’t really know, I’ve seen crazy things happen,” Snell said. That being said, for the New York Yankees, Snell’s addition would upgrade the rotation significantly. However, the financial constraints will again be a roadblock. The team, in fact, tried their best to sign him during the off-season. However, Snell wanted to be rewarded handsomely for his CY Young status while the Yankees had their hands tied due to soaring payroll issues. It remains to be seen if the Giants will be willing to move Snell on August 1.

Meanwhile, ahead of Juan Soto’s 2025 free agency, Michael Kay, New York Yankees ball by ball announcer, revealed that the slugger’s top priority will be money and not loyalty. He claimed that Soto will choose a team that pays him the most irrespective of their standards and ability to contest for postseason and championship.

“If a team as bad as the White Sox offer him $80 million dollars a year, he’s going to the White Sox. He’s going to go where they pay him the most money,” Kay said. However, Juan Soto earlier mentioned that his goal is to be on a winning team and that will be the key to his free agency decision.
