New York Yankees pitching staff has suffered the most due to injuries this season. Since the start of the year, the five-man starting rotation has remained incomplete. First, Frankie Montas, then Carlos Rodon, and again, Luis Severino, all pitchers fell prey to respective injuries one after the other.

Gerrit Cole and Nestor Cortes were the only healthy pitchers until mid-June, wherein the latter suffered a serious injury. Cortes was having an ordinary time on the mound before being placed on the injury list due to a shoulder rotator cuff strain. Meanwhile, after months of grilling rehab sessions, the left-handed pitcher is set on the course of an imminent return.

In the month of June, New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes entered IL due to a left rotator cuff strain. He had been battling that injury throughout the season, which worsened over time. It’s been two months since the incident, and Cortes is still in a rehab program. Since the resumption of the season after the All-Star break, the pitcher ramped up his recovery process. After hitting multiple bullpen sessions, Cortes received a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset Patriots. In two starts, the starter has made positive progress. While he still has one start left with the Triple-A, the Bronx Bombers are happy with his progress.

As per the latest reports, Nestor Cortes will return from IL on Saturday to pitch against the Houston Astros after nearly two months. Prior to reinstatement, he will play a rehab game on Wednesday and hit an additional bullpen session on Thursday. Ahead of the scheduled return, Cortes said that he was made aware of his Saturday’s start while he arrived at the clubhouse to pack his things to travel to Scranton. Having said that, the pitcher looked relieved as he had stayed on the shelf for too long. His imminent goal is to regain his lost form and prove his worth. Cortes’ Saturday start was initially scheduled for Domingo German, who is now on the restricted list due to alcohol abuse allegations. Overall, Nestor Cortes’ return will certainly boost the Yankees’ rotation and hopefully help in the late playoff push.

“Fire Cashman” Chants Breaks Out At Yankees Stadium Following Upsetting Trade Deadline

The recently concluded trade deadline brought a lot of disappointment to the Yankee fans. The front office, led by general manager Brian Cashman, added a couple of rental bullpen pieces at the final minute of the deadline. However, it did not sit well with the fans, who apparently expected a lot more. As per their reputation, the Yankee fanbase communicated their resentment through loud boos. At Tuesday’s game at the Yankee stadium, the fans chanted “Fire Cashman” relentlessly throughout the game.

It did not end there as on Wednesday as well, the chants of “Fire Cashman” were heard aloud in the Bronx. The public resentment against the Yankees GM is not new. The fans for long have not remained on board with Cashman’s questionable moves. Be it trades or off-season acquisitions, nothing has worked in favor of the club. It’s time Hal Steinbrenner addresses the situation and takes the necessary steps.
