Yankees Bolster Roster

In a proactive effort to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2025 MLB season, the New York Yankees have claimed infielder Braden Shewmake and right-handed pitcher Owen White off waivers. These acquisitions aim to add depth and potential to the team’s lineup and pitching staff as they prepare for spring training.

Braden Shewmake: A Promising Infielder

Braden Shewmake, 27, was initially selected by the Atlanta Braves as the 21st overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Known for his versatility and solid defensive skills, Shewmake made his MLB debut with the Braves in 2023. After a stint with the Chicago White Sox, where he appeared in 29 games during the 2024 season, Shewmake was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Royals in January 2025 before being designated for assignment. The Yankees seized the opportunity to add him to their roster, recognizing his potential to contribute both offensively and defensively.

Owen White: Strengthening The Pitching Arsenal

Owen White, 25, was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He has been recognized for his pitching prowess and was previously ranked among the top prospects in the Rangers’ organization. White’s journey has seen him move through several organizations, including the Cincinnati Reds, before the Yankees claimed him off waivers. His addition is expected to bolster the Yankees’ pitching depth, providing valuable options as the team gears up for the upcoming season.

Roster Adjustments: Making Room For New Talent

To accommodate these new additions, the Yankees designated right-handed pitcher Allan Winans for assignment. Winans, who was claimed off waivers earlier in the offseason, now faces an uncertain future as the team finalizes its 40-man roster ahead of spring training.

Looking Ahead: Spring Training And Beyond

As the Yankees prepare for spring training, the integration of Shewmake and White into the roster reflects the organization’s commitment to building a competitive and dynamic team. These strategic moves aim to enhance both the infield versatility and pitching depth, positioning the Yankees for a strong start to the 2025 season.
