New York Yankees registered a comfortable win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday to take an early lead in the series by 1-0. Gerrit Cole, the Yankees ace, made his sixth start and lasted for 6.2 innings while striking out eight batters. Owing to Cole’s stellar defense and DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and Jose Trevino’s homers, the Bombers went home with their 15th win of the season.

Gerrit Cole, who has been with the team since 2020, has, over the years, transformed into the team’s elite pitcher. Whenever the Yankees find themselves in a fix, they turn to Cole for rescue. Even this year, the pitcher is the only Yankees to have not faced a defeat this season. Moreover, he has only allowed five runs in six outings with a 1.11 ERA. Certainly, Cole is the shining light of the Yankees lineup this year. However, a recent incident has landed the pitcher on the wrong side.

While Gerrit Cole dominated Thursday’s outing, a particular incident on the field caught the fan’s attention. At the bottom of the third inning, Texas Rangers’ baseman Marcus Semien launched a hit off Cole’s slider in the left field. At the moment, Aaron Hicks, the Yankees under fire outfielder, made an attempt to catch the ball but somehow lost sight, and it wobbled out of his hands. Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the center rushed for damage control, but all went in vain as Marcus managed to reach second base. Clearly, a visibly dejected Cole was unimpressed with Hicks’ efforts and rolled his eyes in frustration.

Now, the internet is divided on the whole incident. While some stand in favor of Cole and demand the ouster of Aaron Hicks, a few criticized the pitcher for showing a lack of sportsmanship. Amid the uproar, MLB analyst Jared Carrabis jumped into the debate and said a lot of people would call Gerrit Cole a horrible and whiny teammate for his actions. While he does not agree with the sentiment, Jared knows that a lot of people would feel that way. Regardless, Cole’s reaction seemingly came in the heat of the moment. With two outs, Marcus was the last nail in the coffin. As a result, the pitcher disapproved Hicks’ efforts on the field.

Aaron Hicks’ Painful Outings Have Left The Yankee Fans Frustrated

New York Yankees outfielder, Aaron Hicks, is arguably the least-liked Yankee among the fan base. His struggle as a professional baseball player has been prolonged enough to prompt the fans and analysts to question his place on the team. The Yankees, however, have no depth in the outfield whatsoever. Hence, the fans, whether they like it or not, have to bear with the outfielder for an extended period of time.

Regardless, the fans ensured they conveyed their feelings to the Yankee front office. Twitter users are coming down hard on Aaron Hicks’ recent field error and wonder what is forcing the Yankees to have him on the team. They are done watching him in the lineup and demand his immediate ouster.
