It has not been easy for Mercedes to lose their grip on the driver’s and constructor’s titles. In 2021 they were the favorites to win the title again when in Abu Dhabi the F1 map changed in a big way. The challenger Max Verstappen won the race fair and square amidst a lot of drama. But the following year pointed fingers at the poor quality of the car. The W13 car clearly destroyed the season for Mercedes.

And ever since they have not managed to figure out how to build a car that wins races. Last year the Silver Arrows managed to win a single race at the Brazilian Grand Prix. It is not expected from a team that dominated the sport for a long time in the recent years. In the turbo-hybrid era Mercedes ruled the sport in both driver’s and constructor’s title races. But with the cost cap rule era the Brackley team lost their edge. And looks like the team is owning up to all their wrongdoings and hoping to be strong for the upcoming hardships.

The Brackley Team Was A Huge Disappointment In Bahrain

The fans were eagerly waiting to see a redemption from Mercedes W14 car. But it was not meant to be, perhaps. It looks like the team engineers will need another year to figure out the formula to build the perfect car. But the star of the Mercedes team may not wait for so long. Sir Lewis Hamilton is desperate for his eighth title, but Mercedes is not helping him get there.

The seven-time champ is 38 at the moment and he might look for other teams who may provide him with a prospect of a better car. Hamilton lately mentioned that Mercedes engineers did not take his suggestions which might have helped them with the proceedings. The Briton added that he is racing for a long time and he understands what the car needs to go faster. But the trackside engineers went the other way. They are paying the price for that after the awful display at the Bahrain Grand Prix this year.

Hamilton and Russell managed to win 5th and 7th places at the Bahrain GP respectively. On the other hand the oldest driver on the grid, Fernando Alonso with Aston Martin looked more worthy to challenge Verstappen. But the Aston Martin team is using a lot of Mercedes products like in their wind tunnel but were able to build a faster car. Hence Mercedes has a lot to work on. In the meantime the Brackley team have published a letter to their fans apologising for what happened at Bahrain. The letter says that it is important to have faith in such hard time. In the letter they mentioned that panicking is not an option but need to have courage in this situation.

Mercedes says in the letter, “we have plans for the upcoming races and we will come back stronger because these are not sudden plans. We are working on these ideas for a long time.” In the letter Mercedes also expressed that they love challenges and they will turn things around and asked the fans to just hold on a little longer. On the other hand, there is another speculation floating around the future of Lewis Hamilton. If this year, Mercedes fails the way they started the current season, Hamilton may move to Ferrari. Ferrari is the only team who came close to Red Bull last year and was better than the Silver Arrows in Bahrain. Lewis Hamilton might be waiting for the season to get over before he signs another contract with Mercedes or not.
