Lewis Hamilton is one of the finest F1 racers of all time. He has accomplished things in F1 that, in recent times, nobody could imagine. He has won the same number of driver’s world championships as the great Michael Schumacher. The seven-time champion of Mercedes has been looking for his eighth title for a long time now. But without the perfect car, even a seven-time winner is unable to win races, let alone seasons.
The last season has been particularly a career low-point for Lewis Hamilton and team Mercedes as he could not win a single race in a season for the first time. Their W13 car has been just that bad not to let the seven-time champion get to his eighth. Coming to the new season in 2023, the Silver Arrows are still figuring out to solve all the issues in the car before providing the drivers with the perfect vehicle. Amidst this, another claim is coming out for the Mercedes team and their problems. But what is that? Keep reading to find out.
Toto Wolff & Lewis Hamilton Exaggerating Their Problems
Apparently, Toto Wolff mentioned even before the start of the opening Grand Prix that this W14 car wouldn’t be competitive enough to be a threat to Red Bull. Well, as it turns out, it is far from being a threat. Wolff says Lewis Hamilton is right when he points out that the cockpit is the main problem. The cockpit is where the driver gets the feel of the car, and Hamilton has a pretty good understanding of a car. If he can sense that there is something wrong with the downforce. Then he won’t be able to go full throttle as he used to do.
However, Former Ferrari man Ernest Knoors argues that the Mercedes team is exaggerating their problems with the car. The former engineer of the Red Devils mentioned, “The main problem Mercedes is facing nowadays is reliability. They cannot rely on the W14 car and hence won’t get the most out of it.” What if Lewis Hamilton was right in alleging that his team did not listen to his ideas about what the car needs? Perhaps that is where the Brackley team made a big mistake. Maybe that is why the seven-time champion cannot entirely rely on the W14 car.
Mercedes Ignored Idea Of Lewis Hamilton
Meanwhile, three Grands Prix are done in the current season. Albeit, the last race in Australia was a much better outing for the Mercedes team. The seven-time champion won the P2 after a long time. It was the 192nd podium finish of his career. But still, the W14 car is not helping to celebrate as the car is nothing short of a hazard.
According to sources, Lewis Hamilton had a different idea for the W14 car, but Mercedes just ignored his opinion. After the Australian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver mentioned the main problem of the car is the cockpit as it is too far forward. The team boss Toto Wolff mentioned that if the seven-time champion says there is a need for a change in the car. Then it will indeed be looked at.
