Max Verstappen is the reigning F1 World Champion. He has won the title three years in a row. Moreover, he is on his way to win it again. However, the pressure is increasing on the Red Bull driver as McLaren and Mercedes have made some good progress in the last few races this year. Fans are loving the competition between Lando Norris and his good friend who’s also the reigning champion. However, the McLaren driver is still 78 points behind the three-time champion. Hence, things can go down to the wire in the coming races. But let’s not forget the seven-time champion, Lewis Hamilton, just yet.
Lately, things have again started to go in his favor. He has won two races already. If the Mercedes upgrades truly work, then Hamilton can become a real threat to the Dutch driver as well as to Lando Norris. Until that happens, Max Verstappen is still in the lead, and several fans believe he is still the best driver this year. That’s not surprising because Verstappen has already won seven races in the ongoing season, way more than other drivers on the grid.
Lately, An F1 Veteran Asked Verstappen’s Teammate To Concede Defeat Already
Another season, and again, Sergio Perez is on the verge of asking the question, “Will I be fired?” Lately, GRANDPRIX247 quoted Jo Ramirez, an F1 veteran, saying, “It’s very difficult for Sergio Perez.” Moreover, the veteran mentioned that the Mexican is not a bad driver. However, Jo advises Checo to say that the car is “Perfect.” The veteran points out Checo’s habit of constantly complaining about the temperature, the tyres, and the car. Adding to that, Ramirez said what Perez should have done a long time ago. Jo was wondering why can’t Checo admit, “Max is a phenomenon, and it’s impossible for me to get close to him.”
Moreover, the veteran made his opinion clear that he thinks at present not many driver is at Verstappen’s level, or “Maybe none.” Ramirez can’t see Sergio Perez ever be able to match the reigning three-time champion. Even if Checo changes his driving style, he might come second to the Dutch driver, feels Jo. That’s the best the Mexican driver can do. After 14 rounds, Perez is in the 7th spot in the Driver’s standings. He has 131 points. On the other hand, after winning seven races over 14 GPs, Verstappen is at the top with 277 points.
Jo Laments F1 Has Lost Its Romanticism In The Age Of Max Verstappen And The Other Modern-day Drivers
Currently, the most dominant team, Red Bull, is still leading the Constructor standings with only ten races remaining. Lately, the 82-year-old Jo Ramirez recalls the past days when they had access to the inner circles of Formula 1 drivers like Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and so on. GRANDPRIX247 quoted Ramirez, saying, “The sports has lost that romanticism, that humanity.”
Adding to that, Jo mentioned that the drivers no longer show who they are in front of the press and media. He added, “For interviewing a driver, you must schedule it weeks in advance.” They just can’t go and do an interview right now. Hence, Jo ventures, “F1 has lost a lot.”
