New York Yankees announced major roster moves on Saturday, which involved a few key players getting placed on the injury list (IL).

The New York Yankees are facing a massive injury crisis as several key players have been forced to the injured list in the early part of the 2023 season. Prior to the opening day, the Yanks had already lost key pitchers Frankie Montas and Carlos Rodon. They also somewhat lost Nestro Cortes to a hamstring injury, who fortunately recovered just in time.

Now, as the season commenced, more players are falling prey to the dreaded injury bug. It’s just been 10 days of the year-long season, and the Yankees find themselves in a huge deep hole. On Saturday, the Yanks released another list of players placed on the IL. And to tackle those troubles, the bullpen depth from the minors has been summoned.

On Saturday, ahead of the key matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees made major roster moves. Third baseman Josh Donaldson, who suffered a hamstring injury a few days ago, has been placed on a 10-day IL. In a shocking move, another starter, Jonathan Loaisiga, was placed on a 15-day IL owing to an inflammation on the right elbow. Jonathan looked fine the other day and showed no signs of any discomfort. Hence, his injury remains a massive setback.

Tommy Kahnle suffered from persistent right biceps tendinitis before the start of the season. While his recovery reportedly went according to plan, the Yankees have now decided to place him on a 60-day injury list. On the other hand, to tackle the latest injury concerns, the Yankees front office has called up a few players from the minors. Jhony Brito, who made a dream debut a week ago, received a call-up along with outfielder Willie Calhoun. Both the players stayed on standby and joined the team on an immediate basis. Speaking on the crisis, Aaron Boone, the skipper, said the injuries definitely came as a setback. However, with an appropriate plan of action and rehab, all the players will likely return in due time.

With just 10 days into the 2023 season, the New York Yankees nearly have their 2/3rd of the bullpen on the injury list. The majority of them consist of key starting pitchers. Further, as the Bombers announced a new list of injured players, the fans were left extremely furious. While some expressed excitement for the new talent, a few criticized the injured player for recklessness. Overall, all the fans seemed pretty disappointed with the latest development.

Now, the New York Yankees have a bigger task off the field. They have to shift focus on the injured players and get them back as soon as possible. Of course, it’s too early to press the panic button, but this kind of thing could hurt the team in the longer run. Hence, the front office must stay vigilant as they advance in the season.
