Marcus Stroman joined the New York Yankees last offseason. The NY side planned some significant changes in their 40-man roster. After all, they had the worst season in 2023. It was their worst in the last 30 years. They could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Moreover, they finished fourth in the American League East division with a horrible 82-80 record. That’s the reason why the Bronx Bombers had planned to make significant changes in the last offseason. Moreover, the NY side was looking for an ace pitcher like Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, who could fit perfectly alongside Gerrit Cole.

But they did not go ahead with those plans. Instead, they stuck with one significant change in the starting pitching lineup, that was the addition of Marcus Stroman. Initially, though, the lineup looked a bit shaky. Later, Gerrit Cole hurt his right elbow during spring training. That gave way to even more concerns. However, since the Opening Day of the regular season, the Yankees have looked pretty solid. Moreover, the pitchers of the NY side have been brilliant. Stroman credits the chemistry between them for the success so far.

In the last game against the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees lost 5-4. Their winning streak that went up to seven games came to an unfortunate end. However, it was not the fault of the starting pitcher. Instead, Clay Holmes, who had been so far really successful in closing the games for the Yankees, had his worst game of the year. That cost the NY side the game against the Mariners. Otherwise, Marcus Stroman had a great game on Monday. He pitched 7.1 innings and gave away just one run. Stroman had his longest start as a Yankees pitcher. He did a great job. If it was not for Holme’s blunder, the game could have gone in favor of the Yankees.

Nevertheless, the home crowd gave a standing ovation to Stroman after his incredible performance on Monday. Later, in the post-game interview, as per Daily News, Marcus Stroman mentioned that it means a lot to him to get that kind of a reception being a Long Island native himself. On top of that, he shared a secret about why the pitching department has been so successful this season. Stroman said, “We really love each other.” Irrespective of the result, the vibe in the clubhouse is the same of love for one another, said the Long Island native.

Marcus Stroman said Gerrit Cole has been invaluable to the team this season even without playing one game. The 2023 AL Cy Young winner hurt his right elbow right before the Opening Day in the spring training. Since then, Cole has been on the 60-day Injured List.

But his presence in the clubhouse has been quite impactful. That’s what Stroman said on Monday. In case of any in-game suggestion, pre or post-game, Cole is always there for his fellow pitchers. Hence, Stroman says, “It has been incredible to have Cole in our back pocket.”
