New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided a major injury update on pitcher Frankie Montas at a press meet.

Last season, the New York Yankees were battered badly with injuries that eventually led to the team’s ouster in the ALCS against Houston Astros. Furthermore, some players have still not regained full fitness ahead of the 2023 MLB season opening day. On top of that, the injury list is getting wider with the addition of two new players, Frankie Montas and Nestor Cortes.

Frankie Montas, who sat most of the 2022 season on the bench due to injury, had regained fitness at the start of the off-season. However, a short while after New Year, rumors started floating that Montas had re-picked the same shoulder injury that hampered his 2022 season. While the pitcher was expected to return on opening day, the latest developments are not very promising.

Pitcher Frankie Montas made his debut donning the pinstripes on August 7 last year after arriving at the Bronx through a trade with the Athletics. However, the pitcher could only feature in a handful number of games as he picked up an injury on his right shoulder. The injury marked the end of Montas’ run in 2022. Furthermore, at the start of the off-season, Montas reportedly gained full fitness. Hence, the Yankees fixed his spot in the starting rotation. However, in mid-January, a news report confirmed that the pitcher was suffering from shoulder inflammation which would take about 6-8 weeks to heal.

Meanwhile, the latest update on the pitcher’s injury s heartbreaking for the Yankee fan base. According to skipper Aaron Boone, Frankie Montas will undergo surgery on his right shoulder. The surgery will take ample time to heal. Hence Montas is most likely to miss the first half of the regular season. Meanwhile, Boone stated the surgery is “just a scope,” and Montas would return in the second half. However, the experts believe even if the shoulder heals, the pitcher will not be able to regain full match fitness in time. And hence will miss the whole 2023 MLB season.

“Now we’ve gotten to the point where they’re going to go in,” said Aaron Boone.

Yankees Pitching Rotation Breaks Down As Nestor Cortes Picks An Injury

Pitching rotation, the most hyped-up aspect of the Yankees has started to fall apart days before the commencement of the regular season. While the leaders Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are settling in, the rest of the rotation is in shambles. The Bombers lost a starter after Frankie Montas went down with a shoulder injury. Now the club suffers another major blow.

Nestor Cortes pulled out of the World Baseball Classic 2023 after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring injury. However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is confident that the pitcher will regain full health in time for the opening day. In a worst-case scenario, if both pitchers miss out, Domingo German and Clarke Schmidt will replace the duo in the rotation.
