The 2024 Silverstone Grand Prix offered redemption to homeboy Lewis Hamilton as he ended his 2.5-year-long winless streak in F1. The 39-year-old, who once questioned his worth in the sport, let his raw emotions spill out as he broke down in his dad’s arms following the win at the British Grand Prix. The wild scenes witnessed when Hamilton crossed the checkered flag reflected the importance of the win for the driver, his team, and the fans alike. His race engineer, Peter Bonnington, who has been with Lewis Hamilton for 12 years, shed a tear while conveying an emotional radio message. He even walked up to the podium with Lewis to celebrate the iconic victory.

That being said, Peter Bonnington and Lewis Hamilton’s performance engineer, Mike Sansoni, posted a heartfelt story with the winning trophy on Instagram and captioned it as ‘Team Red 44.’ However, the word ‘red’ led to various rumors of Peter Bono’s potential move to Ferrari with Lewis Hamilton in 2025. However, some users clarified that Lewis’ side of the garage is called Team Red, whereas George Russell’s side is called Team Blue, as Mercedes introduced the terms a while back to avoid confusion. The distinguishing helps in smooth workflow on both sides without the risk of miscommunication. It has nothing to do with Ferrari, as Pete Bono has a no-poaching clause in his contract, which prevents his movement to Maranello in 2025 when Lewis Hamilton is set to switch teams. Riccardo Adami, Carlos Sainz’s present race engineer, is expected to partner up with Lewis in 2025.

While Mercedes logged two back-to-back victories in F1 after a long drought, Ferrari witnessed a steep decline following Charles Leclerc’s Monaco win. Hence, amidst a big contract in performance, Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton was asked if he was still open to joining Ferrari despite the team falling behind in the pecking order.

‘Yes,” Lewis Hamilton replied. Notably, the seven time world champion earlier stated that he thinks he has made the right decision for himself by choosing to dump Mercedes for Ferrari. While many have questioned his loyalty, Lewis does not feel the need to be answerable to anyone and he know in his conscious that he has made the right decision for himself and his future endeavour beyond the tracks of Formula 1.
