Sir Lewis Hamilton has been looking for a Grand Prix win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He is 38 at the twilight of his career. Only Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso is older than Hamilton on the grid. Hence, the seven-time champion has not much time left if he wants to win another title. Apparently, he needs one more title to win to go past Michael Schumacher and become the ultimate F1 racer. Lewis is already unarguably the greatest F1 racer of all time, owing to his records.
Hamilton’s rival, Max Verstappen, is enjoying a healthy lead due to the superiority of the Red Bull’s car. But in recent times, the Mercedes driver has lost his grip due to his team letting him down with the poor quality of the car. Mercedes has been struggling since last year. But the Brackley team has been hoping to challenge Aston Martin and Ferrari at present with their upgrades to W14 since the Monaco Grand Prix. And after the Canadian GP this season, Lewis Hamilton explained why Mercedes is still not able to catch up to the pace of Aston Martin and Red Bull.
Lewis Hamilton Is Not Happy With The Rear End Of His Car
The current leaders, Red Bull, are a little too ahead of the entire grid at present. They are 154 points ahead of Mercedes in the constructors’ championship, who is in second place. However, the Silver Arrows has fewer podiums than Aston Martin at present. They are also aware of the fact that their car is not ready yet and cannot imagine winning a title this year. But team Mercedes are looking to improve on the results of every race. They also know that it will depend on the race tracks as well. For instance, Mercedes had their first double podium this season in Spain. But they knew the next race in Canada would be difficult. They could not hope for a similar result as in Spain.
That is what happened as Lewis Hamilton came in third, but George Russell fell behind at P19 in the Canadian Grand Prix. Later, Hamilton spoke to Sky Sports F1 about why he could not finally beat Fernando Alonso in the Canadian Grand Prix. According to the seven-time champion, the biggest weakness of his Mercedes team is the rear end. It is due to the rear end that he could not catch up to the Spaniard at the low speed. However, Aston Martin and Red Bull’s rear end impressed Lewis Hamilton a lot.
“Max And Fernando’s Rear Ends Are Awesome,” Claims Lewis
Lewis Hamilton was able to gain his 194th podium finish at Montreal. It is a record that will be hard to beat. However, after the Canadian GP, Hamilton praised Red Bull and Max Verstappen. He said, “Max and Red Bull’s rear end is absolutely insane.” He also praised Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin. The seven-time champion mentioned, “Your (Alonso’s) rear end is awesome as well.” The Mercedes driver mentioned that it is a huge honor to be a part of the podium with two world champions. On top of that, he and his team knew that it was not going to be a successful weekend in Montreal. As Hamilton mentioned, “We struggle in the slow corners, and we did not have enough pace in Montreal.”
