It is only because of Mercedes’ poor car that Lewis Hamilton has been unable to end his winless drought. The man who has won the most races in the F1 sport has been winless for a ridiculously long time. The 38-year-old Briton is desperate to get back to winning ways. However, it won’t happen unless the car helps him get there.

Mercedes has once again introduced new upgrades in Silverstone. With a new front wing, the former champions want to solve the issue around the lack of pace, especially in the slow-speed corners. The new front wing must bring aero balance to the W14 car. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will hope that the change would help W14 gain more pace around the slow-speed corners. Undoubtedly, the British Grand Prix has been a highly lucky race for Hamilton over the years. If he wants to come back to winning ways, there is not a better and more apt race to turn things around.

According to the Mercedes’ trackside engineer, Andrew Shovlin, the team has made some specific changes to W14, keeping in mind the driving style of Lewis Hamilton. At the end of the day, that is what a driver wants from the car to suit his driving style. Shovlin explained to Sky Sports F1 that with their upgrades in Monaco, the car got a little bit pointy, and the front end is pretty direct. According to him, “There is a fine line between the car being helpful to your driving style and it causing a little bit of hindrance.”

Shovlin also mentioned that due to the sprint races, there is no time to experiment with the setup. Hence, the team has brought items to adapt the car to the driving style of Lewis Hamilton. But Andrew Shovlin asserted that “Lewis is very pragmatic.” Even Lewis Hamilton mentioned that they hoped the new right-wing would help the team move in the right direction. But it is not a huge package that will change the results drastically.

If Lewis Hamilton wins the race in Silverstone this weekend, then he can deny Red Bull of making another record. The Milton Keynes team has won the last ten Grands Prix stretching to the last season. What happens if Max Verstappen wins the next GP as usual? Then Red Bull will equal the record of McLaren back in 1988. However, Hamilton can deny Red Bull and Max Verstappen from getting there.

The Briton can create another history on his home soil if he wins this weekend at Silverstone. Along with Michael Schumacher, Hamilton holds the record of winning at a particular venue for the most time. Lewis Hamilton has won eight races in the British Grand Prix and in the Hungarian Grand Prix. Like Michael Schumacher won eight races in the Magny-Cours track. Hence, there is a good chance for both Hamilton and Verstappen to make history in the next Grand Prix.
