LeBron James came to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018 and won a championship in 2019-20 for the team. He always says that what drives him to play for a longer time is the idea of winning titles. Nothing makes him happier. However, James has accomplished many individual records since he joined the Lakers. This year, he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record to become the new all-time leading scorer. King James is also the no. 4 on the all-time assists list.

At 38, LeBron James has been playing at a very high level. In the last season, his average scoring has been above 25.0 points, and he is still among the top players in the league. But coming to the twilight of his career, James is still looking for his 5th championship ring. In his long and illustrious career, the Akron Hammer has accomplished more than the things he dreamt about. The only thing remaining is to play alongside his son, Bronny, in the NBA for any team, irrespective of money, before retirement. The King is even ready to leave the Lakers to play with his son.

However, fans are afraid that failures since the 2021 season to lift the trophy have made LeBron James lose interest in sticking with the Lakers. Hence, the question remains, what’s the next chapter in James’ book? He has said several times that the aim is to play alongside his son, Bronny, in NBA before his retirement. That would make his basketball career complete. Recently, ESPN made a mock NBA 2024 Draft where the Atlanta Hawks picked Bronny James. Surprisingly, Bronny James was the 17th pick in the hypothetical draft. In reply, LeBron James made another Instagram post stating if Atlanta Hawks pick Bronny next year, the whole James family will move with his son.

Hence, the question remains if that Instagram post is another hint at leaving the Lakers after next year. The King has all but confirmed his intention to leave Los Angeles Lakers. Moreover, his son Bronny James will be a freshman next season at USC. Hence, James Jr. could be eligible for next year’s draft. Moreover, there will be many teams eagerly waiting to grab the legend’s son from the NBA draft if he assures that he’ll join too. LeBron James has often mentioned that when his son gets picked, it won’t be about money anymore. He just wants to play alongside his son for any team in the NBA.

Sadly, the way the 2022-23 season ended really broke the King’s heart. The Los Angeles Lakers came so close to winning the title after a horrible start to the season. Unfortunately, they had to face a humiliating defeat at the hands of the eventual champions, Denver Nuggets, in the Western Conference Finals as the series was over in four games. Hence, in the post-game interview, King James gave a shocking statement with a cryptic message hinting at retirement. He mentioned, “I’ve a lot to think about the game of basketball.” Later on Instagram, James posted a story that had another cryptic message hinting at retirement. Hence, the fans are preparing themselves for the King to announce his retirement after twenty years in NBA. However, he has still got a year remaining in his contract with Los Angeles Lakers. According to the contract, LeBron James should play till 2023-24.
