There are few players in the NBA right now who tend to make a discussion as polarizing as Russell Westbrook. The 22-23 NBA season has been a rollercoaster ride for the Lakers\’ point guard. At the start of the season, Westbrook was struggling from poor form. But he seemingly redeemed himself after a few games. Meanwhile, in the middle of the season, there have been several rumors regarding Russ\’ trade from the Lakers. However, as Westbrook is now balling away his poor form, some Lakers fans are debating should the team give him a contract extension.

Will Russell Westbrook Get A Contract Extension?

Russell Westbrook has been a contentious figure throughout his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. Throughout his career with the Lakers, he has drawn criticism for being ineffective and having a high turnover rate. However, a sizable portion of the public thinks Russell Westbrook has improved since coach Darvin Ham switched him to a sixth-man position where he comes off the bench.

Westbrook currently has a contract that is about to expire. But by letting his deal expire, the organization could free up a significant amount of cap room. Or perhaps, even with a reduced contract, he could still be a valuable player for the Los Angeles Lakers. The team\’s decision to extend Russell Westbrook\’s contract is up for debate among NBA fans. Although there was a range of opinions, it appears that despite his recent performance, a sizable portion of supporters still want him to leave the Los Angeles Lakers.

If Russell Westbrook receives a contract extension from the Los Angeles Lakers in the future is yet to be seen. Even if it is difficult to imagine him obtaining a profitable long-term contract for the team, if he is prepared to accept a wage reduction, it\’s feasible that they will elect to keep him. He could also be traded, though, which is a strong possibility.

The future of the Sixth Man of the Year discussion and whether Russell Westbrook will be considered for it are both uncertain. He should be an obvious top-5 contender for the award if he keeps performing at his current level. Russell Westbrook has clearly discovered a way to influence the Los Angeles Lakers\’ ability to win.

Although Westbrook has just made a comeback, his enormous salary continues to be the largest roadblock to any possible Westbrook. Russ still owes $47 million to this season\’s team. So, any team that acquires him through trade will be responsible for some of that debt. This just implies that the Lakers will need to add value to any prospective trades for the target team. Two future first-round selections that LA presently has available will probably need to be traded as part of a deal, including Russ.
