Former infielder turned utility player Isiah Kiner-Falfa has had an interesting journey at the Bronx. Since joining the New York Yankees in 2022, the Hawaiian native has played multiple positions, ranging from shortstop to third base to outfield, and even stepped on the mound at times. However, those efforts proved to be not enough for the Bombers.

The New York Yankees have used Isiah Kiner-Falefa as and when they deemed necessary. On the other hand, IFK, on his part, has prepared himself well enough to fit into any role just for the sake of playing in pinstripes. However, the recent call-up of a prospect has endangered IFK’s place in the starting lineup, as he is getting sidelined on a repeated basis.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa Benched For The Entire Series Vs. Nationals

Ever since transforming into a utility player, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has played almost every position except for catching and first base. However, off lately, he has settled at third base since Josh Donaldson went down with a calf injury. IFK shined when the whole lineup seemed to struggle. Post-May, he hit .278 with a .732 OPS in the subsequent 63 games. However, his position in the starting line has been engendered ever since the Yankees recalled Oswald Peraza from Triple-A. Moreover, as the manager Aaron Boone confirmed, Peraza will be playing regularly. Subsequently, IFK had to be the one sacrificing his spot as Peraza replaced him at third base throughout the three-game series vs. Nationals. While nobody likes being on the bench, IKF understands the team’s logic behind the move.

In an interview, Isiah Kiner-Falefa said that it’s tough to deal with the constant snubs, especially after giving everything to the club. But at the same time, the utility man understands where the New York Yankees are coming from. Moreover, IKF added that he has done a great job with every opportunity landed on his lap. It’s not easy for professional baseball players to maintain consistency with constant snubs. Still, he managed to do that and is proud of himself for pulling it off. Having said that, the utility man will no longer be the Yank’s top priority. Under these circumstances, Kiner-Falefa is looking to soak in each minute of his time left in the Bronx. Because the future is indeed uncertain.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa is an impending free agent. Moreover, the utility man is yet to hold negotiations over an extension contract with the New York Yankees. Amid these uncertainties, IFK opened up on his future plans and seemed in two minds. He said that one on hand, he wants to play regularly, and on the other, he wants to stay in the Bronx.

These two goals are not aligned with one another. As for the Yankees, he is likely to remain the second-best choice. Isiah Kiner-Falefa concluded, saying a lot has been on his mind for now. He will come up with a decision towards the end of the season or even in the off-season. For now, the utility man wants to focus on utilizing his time left in the Bronx.
