The New York Yankees made many moves in the off-season in order to build a suitable bullpen. Furthermore, the club made some bold decisions while cashing out huge loads of money. For starters, the Bombers retained Aaron Judge for $360 million. On top of that, the Yanks acquired Carlos Rodon for $162 million. The Bombers cashed over $500 million alone on four players this season.
However, the Yankees made a dew grave mistakes along the way. For instance, the Yanks refused to retain their only left fielder in the bullpen Andrew Benintendi. Andrew reportedly asked for a five-year contract which the Yanks refused to adhere to. Hence, Andrew moved on and signed with the Chicago White Sox. However, the trail of problems Benintendi left during his departure has made the fans wonder if the Yankees made the right decision to let him go.
Fans Are Divided Over Whether Or Not The Yankees Made The Correct Decision By Letting Andrew Benintendi Leave
Andrew\’s departure did not look as bad as it does now. That\’s probably because the fans had faith in the front office to pick a better outfielder in the off-season. However, the fans\’ world has turned upside down as the Yanks have failed to acquire a candidate for the left field job and are moving into the 2023 season with a huge hole. Looking at the team\’s struggle post-Benintendi\’s departure, a Yankees fan account put up a poll on Twitter asking the fans their opinion on whether the Yanks regret not providing an extension contract to Andrew Benintendi.
The fans stood divided on the poll. While a couple of Twitter users did say the Yankees will regret big time for not retaining Andrew Benintendi, another fan wrote that five years was a long commitment and the Yanks indeed made the right decision. Further, a fan wrote the Yanks would only regret the decision until the left field position is filled by someone else. On the other hand, a Twitter user also claimed the Yankees are already regretting their decision. Only time will tell how much Andrew\’s absence will hurt the Bombers in the long run.
Benintendi Takes A Dig At His Former Team After Joining The White Sox
Andrew Benintendi had an average season with the New York Yankees. However, the outfielder stayed out in the postseason due to injury. Hence, the Yanks decided not to extend his contract. Further, Andrew held negotiation talks with Chicago White Sox and signed a five-year deal worth $75 million. Moreover, during his induction press conference, Benintendi did not hold back from taking a sly dig at his former team, the New York Yankees.
While Brian Cashman maintained his stance that the team made every possible move to retain the outfielder, Andrew debunked the statement. While addressing the press, Andrew Benintendi said it\’s fun to be a part of an organization wherein you feel wanted and desired. The fans quickly picked that Andrew\’s statement was nothing but a sly dig at his former team, the Yankees.
