Stephen Curry would love to end his career with the Golden State Warriors. It was 15 years ago when the story began of the greatest shooter in the league. The Dubs drafted the skinny kid from Akron, Ohio, in 2009, not knowing what the future entailed. Two years later, when the GSW drafted Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, a year after that, they could not possibly imagine the great future of the organization. Thompson and Curry began to change the game forever ever since they became an offensive duo. Having a “Splash Brother” like Klay, helped Steph immensely to revolutionize the three-pointer shot.

Eventually, the day came when the Splash Bros helped the Dubs win a championship. It happened in 2015 when the iconic trio of Steph, Klay, and Dray ended the NBA title drought of 40 years in the Bay Area. But that was just the beginning of the Dubs’ Dominance in the NBA. From 2015 to 2022, the Golden State won four championships, and Stephen Curry was twice the unanimous MVP. But in 2024, the Dubs Dynasty seems to fall apart as Thompson left them for Dallas Mavericks. How can the GSW protect their legacy?

ESPN Sportswriter Says “Spurs Approach” Can Help Warriors Save The Legacy Of Stephen Curry

After losing Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, the Warriors added Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, and De’Anthony Melton. It improved the depth of the Dubs roster to a certain extent. But it did not turn them into contenders again in the Western Conference. San Antonio Spurs can inspire the Dubs to follow a path with which they will be able to save the legacy of their Dynasty. Zach Lowe, the sportswriter and podcaster for ESPN, pointed at the Spurs, who were able to protect the legacy of Tim Duncan right at the end of his career. During his appearance on NBA on ESPN, Zach Lowe mentioned, “It will take a home run, something like the Spurs got when they drafted Kwahi Leonard during the end of Duncan’s prime.” San Antonio’s front office struck gold in 2011 when they drafted Leonard.

With Leonard’s fast development, he was able to complement the Spur’s big three unit. Later, the SAS won the 2013 NBA Championship, protecting Duncan’s legacy. Lowe says that it is common for greats who play for just one team to be always ready to pick for trading. Moreover, the sportswriter says, “They are not really dead, but a lightning strike or a homer will do them a whole lot good to get back on top.” Anyway, the Dub Nation can argue that the roster looks much better than last year’s version. However, they will need another All-Star-level player to raise their chances of making it to the NBA Finals next season. Securing another title won’t be easy with aging stars.

How Can The Dubs Build A Championship Team Again Behind Their Franchise Icon?

Recently, Stephen Curry signed a record breaking one year extension worth $62.6 million with the Dubs. It means the fans will see the three-point King wear the Warriors uniform through the 2026-2027 season. Currently, he is 36 years old. Michael Pina of The Ringer quoted Mike Dunleavy, “Steph’s going to be here forever. Hence, we will have to find a way to build around him.” The Warriors GM added that they will have to consider all the possibilities for the team’s future.

But Dunleavy is pretty confident about Curry playing a whole lot better than the other guys, who are also at the tail end of their careers. Hence, if the front office can build a proper supporting cast around the 10-time All-Star, they can possibly win more titles in the following seasons. So far, the Warriors have made the necessary steps to their goal.
