New York Yankees second baseman, Gleyber Torres, scored two RBIs on Tuesday to help his team take home a second series win.

Gleyber Torres had a horrendous season in 2022, which put him on the trade radar. However, a divine intervention saved the day for the baseman, who got another 365 days to prove himself. On top of that, Torres was featured on the opening day lineup and left a profound impact shortly after. As the Yankees complete one week of the 2023 season, Torres has emerged as the player of the week for the team.

Last night with series on the line, the Yankees promoted Gleyber Torres to the DH role. After drilling a homer on the opening day, the baseman’s spirits and confidence were sky-high. He helped Aaron Judge and DJ LeMahieu score with two RBIs, and the Yanks took home their second series win of the season. For a guy who nearly got traded ahead of the opening day, Torres has done an exceptional job of keeping his place in New York.

New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres is on fire this season. In just six games, he’s scored .421 with five runs, eight hits, two home runs, and six RBIs. Moreover, Torres has already reached the halfway mark of stolen bases from last season by stealing five walks. Certainly, the baseman is on a roll and wants to do everything at this point. Yankees manager Aaron Boone and ace pitcher Gerrit Cole were completely awestruck by the baseman’s performance in the last few games.

While Cole referred to him as a guy who’s “kind of doing it all,” Boone had a lot to share about his growth. Boone said since returning from the WBC, his overall-at-bats have improved. Torres, when healthy, is as good as any other hitter who is capable of taking on any quality pitcher. Further, the manager lauded Gleyber’s game sense while stealing bases and said his game has gotten sharper than ever before. Lastly, Boone signed off, saying Gleyber Torres might just be entering the prime of his career this season, which is a good sign for the team.

Gleyber Torres’ future with the New York Yankees remains uncertain. He wasn’t sure if he would even make it to the opening day as trade rumors stayed rife during the off-season. However, the tables turned for good for Torres, who is now the latest hero of New York. After dominating the first week of the season, the baseman revealed if he is doing all this to prove a point.

Torres subtly denied it and said he just wants to help the team win. The trade or the contract extension rumors has nothing to do with it. However, he still wishes to have that talk with the Yankees front office one on one. Gleyber Torres, on multiple occasions, has expressed his desire to extend his stay in the Bronx. Hence, with this form, the contract is not very far away from his reach.
