The Golden State Warriors have been going through a rough time since last season. They could not make the postseason in the last edition. Then, they had to let go of one of their franchise icons, Klay Thompson, to the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year contract. It was a hard pill to swallow for the Dub Nation as well as the players. The veteran sharpshooter was a favorite in the locker room. Along with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, he had won four NBA championships as an icon of the Bay Area. Moreover, Steph and Klay formed the ‘Splash Brothers’ that changed the game forever.

They revolutionized the three-point shot in the league. But now, the Dubs will have to depend completely on the greatest shooter of the game. As it seems, next season, Curry won’t have another superstar in the offense alongside him. It will increase the pressure on the 36-year-old point guard. Who can take Klay’s place in the team next season? Lately, a former NBA player hinted at the Milwaukee Bucks star, Giannis Antetokounmpo as a possible trade target for the Warriors.

Since the GSW failed to acquire a high-level second option for the greatest shooter in the ongoing offseason, they don’t look like contenders anymore. They tried to sign Paul George and Lauri Markkanen, but their pursuit ended up in failure. The nine-time All-Star George signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. On the other hand, Markkanen signed a long-term contract extension with the Utah Jazz. Hence, the seven-time champion franchise doesn’t have any great trade options to maximize the final few years of Stephen Curry and also to stay as a contender in the post-Curry era. Lately, the Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce recognized the problem of the Golden State Warriors.

On the latest episode of KG Certified, Pierce floated the idea of Giannis Antetokounmpo moving to the Bay Area. He told his former Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett that the only way he sees the GSW to get back where they want to is if they can trade for the Bucks star. Paul Pierce added, “Get Giannis over in the Bay Area.” KG felt his former teammate must have some inside information, which is why he is floating such a wild trade theory. But Pierce insisted that it was just his honest opinion on how he thinks the Warriors can regain their status as a title contender.

What Will Happen To The GSW Without Stephen Curry?

This offseason, Klay Thompson left the GSW, looking for a fresh start. What if Curry follows the same path before he hangs his boots? He is 36 years old. This year, he won his first Olympic gold on his first attempt. Moreover, the three-point King had said that he won’t stay part of a “Bottom-feeder.” Hence, the Warriors will need to build a team that would contend for the title.

Otherwise, Steph will leave sooner than he thought he would. In the absence of Curry, the Warriors will have to depend on youngsters like Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski. Moreover, the Celtics legend Pierce suggests the ‘Greek Freak’ can be the future superstar of the Warriors if they can sign him. But Paul Pierce insists that he has no inside information regarding a trade between the Bucks and the Dubs.
