Harrison Bader next hit a two-run home ball to the left-center field bleachers to make it 3-0 in the game. This was Bader\’s third playoff home run. Gerrit Cole pitched seven innings as the Yankees\’ bid for a 99-win season was in jeopardy. Enabling the Bombers to even the American League Division Series at two games apiece on Sunday with a 4-2 victory against the Cleveland Guardians. Cole gave the Yankees precisely what they needed, not only in avoiding elimination, as he took the field for the 16th time in his playoff career. But also by preventing more damage to a bullpen that has already been battered by injury.

In every one of the first four innings, Cole allowed Cleveland\’s leadoff batter to advance to second base. But each time, it seemed as though he was balancing dangerously close to trouble. With little or no loss on the scoreboard, he was able to ratchet it up and escape. He was able to pull off the trick and work deep while maintaining a manageable pitch count. In Game 4, nothing could get Cole off his game as he pitched 110 pitches and eight strikeouts and kept Cleveland to two runs over seven innings.
