Gerrit Cole, the New York Yankees ace and reigning AL CY Young pitcher, had a delayed start to the year due to a serious elbow injury. However, the injury appears to have taken a toll on his rhythm, as the ace has been inconsistent and rusty on the mound since return.

In a most recent blowout start, Gerrit Cole was a key contributor of the New York Yankees embarrassing 12-3 loss to New York Mets. As the Mets swept the Subway series for the second time this season, Cole was unhappy and frustrated with his own self and the team for falling below standards.

Reigning AL CY Young pitcher and New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole had a bad day at the office as he allowed 6 earned runs, including three home runs, in 5.2 innings start against city rivals Mets on Wednesday. With that, Cole’s ERA shot up to 4.60 in six starts so far this year. That being said, with the Yanks being subject to another series loss amid a tough stretch, the pitcher was seemingly unhappy and frustrated. He was screaming and banging the dugout wall after being pulled out from his start. Moreover, in a post-game interview, Cole was frustrated with the 12-3 loss, and it was indeed a tough one to swallow.

Not only that, Gerrit Cole admitted that the New York Yankees are not happy about the way they have conducted themselves on the field off lately. However, it is also important for the players to flush their frustrations down and be ready for the next challenge. “The next game is really important. We need to be in as good a spot as we can to be able to perform for that,” Cole said. He insists that the players must ensure the past six weeks of disappointment do not take a toll on the team’s future results as the season is still long. That being said, the Yanks will face the Boston Red Sox next in a three-game away series at Fenway Park. Notably, the Yanks losing stretch began at Fenway Park during the previous trip. Hence, the Bombers have an opportunity to reverse the curse with a series win against arch-rivals.

Meanwhile, the series loss to the New York Mets deeply affected the New York Yankees as manager Aaron Boone lost his cool in the post-game press meet. He flipped when he was asked to define the Yanks losing stretch. Boone banged the table with the trademark ‘right in front of us’ comment and said the team is pissed off with losses.

Aaron Boone further added that the Yankees are a better team that has been going through a tough stretch lately. However, they have to play better and be prepared, as the season is still open to achieve the set goals. “We gotta play better, okay? We have it right in front of us,” Boone said in an angry pitch.
