The last season was unique in terms of Hamilton’s worst performances up to date. Never has Lewis Hamilton had a single season without a single race win. Sir Lewis Hamilton is the most successful racer in Formula One history on the basis of the number of race wins. However, the seven-time champ did not manage to win a single race last season.
Battle Between The Young And The Veteran
On the other hand, Hamilton’s junior teammate, George Russell, was able to clinch his maiden and the team’s only race win last season at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton came close to winning that race, but his teammate took the chance away. The blame for poor performance display was on the quality of the W13 car. The condition was so bad that the drivers complained about back and neck pains several times last season.
But the fans will hope that the engineers of the team will figure out the problem and get the best car ready for the drivers in the upcoming season. If the cars are good, then it will fall upon the drivers to show some magic with their skills. They will try to retain the title for the team and themselves. The battle between the youth and the experience in the camp of Mercedes is very prominent in the media. Recently, the young George Russell suggested that his victory at Sao Paolo, Brazil seems to be more highlighted than the fact that he won more points than his experienced teammate.
Expectations Of George Russell
It is true that being able to beat a seven-time champion who is also the teammate is a very big deal. But the media and everybody is congratulating Russell more for winning his maiden Grand Prix at Sao Paolo. George Russell recently spoke to Auto Motor and Sport. He mentioned, “according to me, the win in Sao Paolo, Brazil is more significant than beating Lewis on points.
Nobody really talks about the fact that I finished last season in the fourth place ahead of Lewis. That makes sense because it doesn’t make much difference”. The young Briton proceeded to say that if he were asked whether winning a single was what he wanted or not. Then he would have said, “No. The expectation of the team and myself are so much higher. Than what we were able to achieve last season”.
George Russell the driver who came from Williams team. He managed to beat Lewis Hamilton as his partner in his first season for the Silver Arrows. There are only two other drivers who were able to beat the seven-time champ as their partner. They were Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button. The 24 year old George Russell is not glad with what happened in the last season. He knows that it was a good start. But Russell wants to win his maiden title for Mercedes in the next season. Maybe then he would be able to prove his worth to himself and the world.
