Juan Soto is making a lot of noise in his first season with the New York Yankees. It is great for him because, in the next offseason, he should be the biggest free agent. The last two offseasons saw the American League MVP going to the offseason as the biggest free agent. In 2022, it was Aaron Judge who signed a nine-year extension with the Bronx Bombers for a deal that’s worth $360 million. He won the AL Most Valued Player Award that year for breaking the Home Run Record, surpassing Roger Maris’s 61, hitting 62.

Then, last year, Shohei Ohtani won his second career American League MVP for his elite hitting and pitching performances. Later, the Los Angeles Dodgers landed the Unicorn for a record $700 million deal over ten years. Now, this year, it will be time for Juan Soto to make history. He is the client of baseball’s top agent, Scott Boras. Surely, he would like to sign a big record-breaking deal. Now, how big can it be, and which team will land the Dominican superstar? Lately, a former Yankees manager talked about the possibility of Soto staying in the Bronx.

Joe Torre has won four World Series with the New York Yankees as their manager. Hence, if Juan Soto would like to win a World Series in New York, Torre can share a lot of experience. The Dominican slugger has already won a World Series, but it was with the Washington Nationals. However, the Yankees are the most iconic team in the league’s history. During his appearance at the minor league game of Somerset Patriots on Tuesday, Joe Torre said, “It is not easy in New York.” He added that expectations and pressure are always high. But if they win in here in the Bronx, “There is nothing like it.” Moreover, Torre said that he is a fan of Juan Soto and is keeping a close eye on the Dominican superstar.

The former World Series-winning manager noted that if Soto won’t perform, then people, including the fans as well as the media, will criticize them, saying, “You are not earning as much as you’re making.” Nonetheless, Torre feels the Judge-Soto duo is “Tough to beat” offensively. Moreover, the former Yankees manager has been noticing Soto since his Nationals days. Torre said, “The 25-year-old slugger is such a breath of fresh air because of his personality.” Despite Torre believing that coming to and performing in the Big Apple is a “Different animal,” he is happy for the Yankees because Soto has not had any problem with the ability he has.

Since the discussion started, the two New York teams have been the hot favorites to land the Dominican superstar. Besides the Yankees and the Mets, there is the “New Evil Empire,” the LA Dodgers and also, the former team of Soto, the Nationals. During the midsummer classic, Soto mentioned that he would love to play alongside Shohei Ohtani someday. But he has won a World Series with the Washington Nationals.

Hal Steinbrenner might feel a lot of pressure in the winter when the time will come to extend Soto’s contract. But Scott Boras might make it tough for the Yankees owner with an asking price of $550 million or even up till $600 million. Boras might use the bids from the Mets, the Dodgers or some other team to raise Soto’s asking price. Then, what will the Bronx Bombers do?
