Verstappen is a household name today for any Formula One fan. Max Verstappen is the current double-time champion. In the running season as well, the Dutchman is doing really well. And looks like he is getting ready to win his third consecutive championship.
It is known to everybody that the RB19 car is in a league of its own at the moment. Verstappen is smart enough to get the most out of the vehicle as well. With the best car and the best driver, the Austrian team is having the best time on the grid at present. And that is why Red Bull fans are getting more interested in Max Verstappen than ever. As a result, a recent revelation has come out, which has involved his father and mentor, Jos as well. But what is that? Keep reading to find out.
Was Father Jos Abusive Towards His Son Max?
Recently, a story about the Verstappen household has been getting severe attention that Max’s father was abusive towards him. There is an infamous story that Jos Verstappen, father of the current double-time champion, left his son in a petrol station in Italy. Perhaps Max had not done well in a Karting event that enraged the father. However, in contrary to these claims, Jos has tried to clear the air. According to him, “I might have been a bit hard on Max, but never did I abuse him.”
On the other hand, Max Verstappen, in a recent interview with Channel 4, mentioned, “My dad would tell me I will be a bus or a truck driver instead of an F1 driver in the future.” Verstappen Jr. added that his father would never compliment him; instead would do something to make him realize he needed to work harder.
Max Verstappen’s words lament that his dad never said he could be a champion in the future. However, in an upcoming documentary on Max Verstappen named “Anatomy Of A Champion,” Jos mentioned, “Max had a talent for racing and that I noticed when he was seven. Since then, I’ve been trying to teach him all the things I knew that could help him. I might have been hard, but he could endure it all. Max has always been very mentally strong.” Verstappen Sr. would teach his son how to overtake during go-karting events. He would also teach Max the key lessons to reach the top in a sport like Formula One.
The Verstappen Plan Has Worked Out Well
But whatever happened in the Verstappen household, it surely did work. Max, after a long wait, was able to beat the seven-time champion, Lewis Hamilton, back in 2021. It has been a couple of years, and Max has looked like an untouchable. He sure has the fastest car on the grid, but the Dutchman is incredibly talented as well. In the cost cap era, there is no team that is looking like a threat to Red Bull.
After the first three Grands Prix of the season, Max Verstappen is still leading the table. There may be no driver from other teams who can be a threat to Max, but there is Sergio Perez in the same team who can be with the same car. The Mexicans have proved that in Saudia Arabia, winning the race. It is still a long way to go to the season, and it will keep getting more and more interesting.
