New York Yankees fan base is one of a kind. The people of New York are well-versed in their sport, stay updated regularly, and never shy away from putting out bold opinions. We saw yet another example yesterday. MLB insider, Bryan Hoch, revealed the Yankees’ plan of action for the first three bases. He said the Bombers’ front office would field Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, and Josh Donaldson at first, second, and third base, respectively. The move has raised many eyebrows as Torres and Josh both had a terrible run in 2022.

Meanwhile, the fans are raging over the Yankees’ unusual decision. They took to Twitter to express their disappointment. According to the majority of fans, Josh does not deserve a place in the starting roster and needs to be traded immediately. Further, fans are unhappy with DJ LeMahieu getting sidelines despite being healthy. Moreover, a fan also questioned the New York Yankees’ championship-winning chances with such wild strategies.

Why Can’t The Bronx Bombers Trade Josh Donaldson?

Since last season, the fans and critics have echoed their voices in unison to exclude Josh Donaldson from the bullpen. However, it’s easier said than done. Donaldson, at the moment, is untradeable because of his age. The baseman is 37 years old with a salary of $29 million. Hence, no team would want a player of this age at this high rate. Thus, the New York Yankees forcefully want to utilize Josh as much as possible to do some justice to the payroll.

Another bloke on the trade corner is Gleyber Torres. Aaron Boone did confirm Torres’ place in the starting roster. However, his stay at the Bronx is temporary as the Yankees are looking to trade the baseman the first chance they get. Torres’ situation is similar to Josh’s as he, too, enjoys a handsome payroll and has been underperforming for the past two seasons. On the other hand, if the Bombers somehow manage to get rid of these two starters, they can shed a lot of money. The money could eventually be used to acquire an outfielder in free agency.
