Lewis Hamilton has won two races after a long wait. The seven-time world champion had been under tremendous pressure and finally looked relieved. Since the Silverstone victory, the Briton has regained all the magic as he showcases mastery on the track. However, as the Mercedes team has improved in the last few races, it could be a sign of worry for Hamilton.
The 39-year-old racer signed a deal with Ferrari in February. It was due to an unresponsive car, which was far from competitive. Thus, since the Silver Arrows have re-emerged as a dominating force, the Briton might be unsure of his decision. However, an F1 pundit has explained what was on Hamilton’s mind when he signed the contract with the Prancing Horses.
“Lewis Is Betting On 2026,” F1 Pundit Reveals The Real Reason Behind Hamilton’s Ferrari Move
Karun Chandhok explained that Lewis Hamilton likely didn’t have high expectations for Ferrari in 2025. Instead, Hamilton was probably betting on the 2026 regulation changes to deliver a championship-worthy car from the Italian team, as the SF-24 is currently the fourth-best car on the grid.
Earlier in the season, up until the Monaco GP, Ferrari seemed poised to challenge Red Bull. However, after Charles Leclerc’s memorable home win, the Scuderia took a wrong turn in their development. While Ferrari has increased the car’s downforce levels, the upgrades introduced since the Spanish GP have also brought back porpoising issues with the SF-24. The team is now looking to reverse those upgrades to move in the right direction.
Chandhok noted that Ferrari started the season strongly but has since regressed, which might have led Hamilton to second-guess his decision. Hamilton is betting that Ferrari’s 2026 car will be better than Mercedes’ and hopes that the 2026 regulation changes will provide Ferrari with the opportunity to build a championship-worthy car.
Hamilton Happy As To Leave Mercedes On A High Note
Lewis Hamilton, reflecting on his career, expressed that leaving the sport during tough times would be disheartening. However, departing when things are improving and knowing he contributed to the car’s progress is a rewarding feeling. He feels proud of his contributions and is excited about the prospects for next year.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if Ferrari can make a late-season comeback similar to last year. Hamilton also hopes for this outcome, as it would position the Maranello team to make significant advancements over the winter.
