As the 2024 season comes to a close, major changes are imminent. Lewis Hamilton will conclude his long tenure with Mercedes and move to Ferrari, marking the first time in his career that he will drive a car not powered by Mercedes. While the switch is historic, the seven-time world champion is emotional about leaving the Silver Arrows.

At the same time, Mercedes is focusing on its future, with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell lined up as the team’s new leaders. However, the season has been disappointing for Mercedes, with just three wins. The team currently sits in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, underscoring a lackluster year.

Since their partnership began in 2013, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have made history in Formula 1, with Hamilton securing six of his seven World Championships while driving for the team. However, the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will mark the end of this remarkable chapter, as it will be Hamilton’s final race with Mercedes. To celebrate this momentous occasion, 150 lucky fans will have their names featured on Hamilton’s W15 car during the Abu Dhabi race, with winners chosen through a free prize draw.

Significant changes are underway in the world of F1 governance. Following the announcement of FIA race director Niels Wittich’s departure, compliance officer Paolo Basarri has also stepped down. Reports suggest that FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem decided to relieve Basarri of his duties, hinting at further internal shifts within the organization.

On the track, McLaren’s Lando Norris saw his chances in the Drivers’ Championship slip away in Brazil as Max Verstappen delivered a dominant performance, extending his lead to 62 points. Despite this disappointment, McLaren remains focused on their broader objectives. Team principal Andrea Stella emphasized that their main target has always been to win the Constructors’ Championship, reaffirming their commitment to achieving collective success.

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Matt Whyman reflected on the impact of Lewis Hamilton’s decision to move to Ferrari. The rumors about Hamilton’s departure intensified in January 2024, and by February, the move was officially confirmed. Whyman explained that it wasn’t until the W15 launch event at Silverstone that Hamilton truly realized it would be his final season with Mercedes. He said that it really hit Hamilton during the shakedown when everyone saw the new car for the first time, and it dawned on him that he wouldn’t be representing Mercedes anymore.

Despite the transition, Hamilton has continued to give his all, showing remarkable professionalism and dedication throughout the season. Although the W15 has been unstable and inconsistent at times, Hamilton has still delivered his best performances for most of the campaign. However, in recent weeks, there have been signs of a decline in motivation from the seven-time world champion.
