The New York Yankees’ rebound year after a frightful 82-80 record in the 2023 season has been phenomenal. They started the season on a high before eventually falling into the pits with a concerning slump induced by prolonged losing streak. However, despite the ups and down, the Yanks are steady in the playoff race.

Having said that, the 2024 MLB season is heading towards its final phase with just 6 weeks left on the regular season schedule. Meanwhile, with the playoff race heating up, the New York Yankees have a special advantage over the Orioles and Guardian which could ease up their route to postseason.

The New York Yankees are top contenders for winning a championship this season. However, to accomplish the far-fetched dream, the team will have to bypass the first hurdle, which is to qualify for the postseason. Currently, the Yanks are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the AL-East division. Moreover, with the season entering its final phase, the Bronx Bombers will certainly have an edge over its top rivals. According to Tankathon’s strength of schedule rankings, the Yanks have the third-easiest strength of schedule (.477) in MLB for the remainder of the season. Detroit Tigers (.475) and San Diego Padres (.475) are the only two ones with the easiest schedules after the Yanks.

On the other hand, the Baltimore Orioles have the 10th-easiest schedule (.496), and Cleveland Guardians have the fourth-most difficult schedule (.520). Needless to say, the New York Yankees’ relatively easy schedule gives them an edge in the wild-card race and could also help them make a late push for the AL East division title. With fewer high-stakes matchups compared to the Orioles and Guardians, the Bombers can focus on securing wins without the constant pressure of facing elite competition. However, having an easier schedule is only an advantage if the team can take full advantage of it. Consistency will be key, as they cannot afford to drop games against teams they are expected to beat. Any lapses in strategy or key focus would not be tolerated. Manager Aaron Boone is already serious about the sense of urgency and is open to resorting to strict actions.

Oswaldo Cabrera Makes History In 8-2 Loss To Angels

Yankees utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera has been struggling on offense this season, finally finding some results over his last few games.AP

Interestingly, the New York Yankees utility player Oswaldo Cabrera scripted history in the 8-2 brutal defeat against the LA Angels on Tuesday. Cabrera replaced Anthony Volpe, who was taken out after a foot contusion injury in the eighth inning. Despite the game slipping out of hands, Cabrera grabbed the headlines with a massive solo shot.

Oswaldo Cabrera was up on a 2-0 count in the bottom of the ninth inning when he smoked a colossal moonshot off Joyce’s 101.7 mph pitch. That went down as the fastest pitch a Yankee has homered off of under-pitch tracking since 2008. Indeed, it was a historic moment for Cabrera, who will remember this hit for the rest of his life.
