The New York Yankees had a lot to deal with this offseason. They were in deep trouble after the 2023 season. It could not have gone any worse than what happened. Moreover, the NY side finished with a terrible 82-80 record. They barely managed to maintain the streak of winning seasons. However, it was nothing short of a tremendous shame for the iconic MLB side. The 27-time champions had the second-worst batting average behind the nine-time champions, the Oakland Athletics, in 2023. It was awful because the fans were hoping for the side to contend for the World Series. However, injuries really disrupted their season.

Moreover, the Yankees failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Everything seemed to be going downhill for the NY side. But then the Yankees added Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo to their roster. As a result of these additions this winter, the Yankees Nation can again dream about contending for the World Series. Clearly, the Bronx Bombers have one of the best batting rotations this season. The front office might want to keep this rotation for a few more seasons. However, Juan Soto might not stick with them after the 2024 season. Then, there’s Gleyber Torres, who has not yet extended his contract with the Yankees.

Even The Yankees Are Not Confirming Anything About The Future Of Torres

Gleyber Torres is entering the 2024 season with some concerns over his future with the NY side. It may very well be his last season with the Bronx Bombers. Moreover, the 2024 season is the final year of his previous contract with the Bombers. On Thursday, Brian Cashman mentioned that they have not had any talks with Torres regarding his contract extension yet. They have not decided anything about keeping him in the Bronx after 2024. Moreover, as per The New York Post, Cashman mentioned Torres is the second baseman of the Yankees in 2024. And that they have not had any talks about “Anything past that.”

Torres is just 27 years old. Last season, he was the most consistent slugger of the Bronx Bombers. And it was not someone named Aaron Judge. However, the NY side generally avoids signing extensions with certain players. But the two players they have indeed extended were Luis Severino and Aaron Hicks. Both these players turned out to be disappointments. Anyway, about signing an extension with Torres this year, Brian Cashman remained non-committal. Moreover, he said he doesn’t know. So far, there have not been any discussions on that.

The Bronx Bombers Might Bring Back Corey Kluber

During his short stint for the Yankees, Corey Kluber had an impactful time in the Bronx. But the two-time Cy Young winner has retired now. However, the NY side really wants to bring him back to the franchise in an advisory role. Brian Cashman talked about Kluber and said that their discussions have been at an infant stage so far.

The Yankees GM was in full praise of Kluber and how impactful he was for the clubhouse. Later, he said they had begun conversations about starting a new chapter together. The 37-year-old retired pitcher lives in Tampa Bay. He is pretty close with Nick Swisher, a former Cleveland teammate who is currently a special adviser to Brian Cashman.
