The New York Yankees were not doing very well in the previous few seasons. They were managing to make postseasons but did not go very far. However, in 2023, the 27-time champions found a new low. They could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers finished the regular season with an 82-80 record. Hence, they maintained the streak of winning seasons. But it was a tremendous shame to finish the season like that. Moreover, the GM called the 2023 season simply a “Disaster.”
Since the start of the offseason, the Yankees have been targeting some of the top free agents and players in the league. Before that, they let some players go to make some cap space. They need to bring stability and balance to the roster. Moreover, it is clear that captain Aaron Judge had been taking way too much pressure in the last few seasons. Hence, the Yankees need to do some quality trading to reduce the captain’s stress. Moreover, the Yankees are targeting two superstar lefty outfielders.
What The Yankees Need This Offseason?
Juan Soto is the Plan A for the NY side. As Plan B, the Yankees eye Cody Bellinger. On the other hand, the Bronx Bombers look to sign superstar Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. But Brian Cashman made it clear that the Yankees are in the market for two lefty sluggers who are able to play at left and center field. As per latest information, the Yankees have already talked to the San Diego Padres about Juan Soto. But if they don’t get him, then they will be desperate to land Cody Bellinger. Moreover, the Yankees can also target Kevin Kiermaier of the Toronto Blue Jays.
He sure can prove to be a top-level glove. On the other hand, in the bullpen, besides Yamamoto, the NY side can also target Josh Hader. After all, during the 2023 season, they moved Michael King into the rotation. As potential trade candidates, the Yankees have Gleyber Torres, albeit he has been among their best offensive players. Moreover, the Bronx Bombers can also trade Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe if they have to. But they must ensure the offense gets stronger for the next season.
GM Knows What They Must Do To Make The Fans Happy Again
Brian Cashman knows, understandably, why the fans are not happy with the team. Since the last time they won the World Series in 2009, they’ve not reached that stage again. It has been a too-long wait for the organization and especially the fans to see their favorite team get there. However, the Yankees GM spoke with the reporters in November during the General Manager Meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona. He said it is great to know that everybody expects them to win.
Moreover, Brian Cashman mentioned that the Yankees fan base not only deserves but also expects them to win. He knows very well that anything the Yankees will say now won’t make much of a difference to the fans. It is about what they can do this offseason to improve their situation, and the roster will let the fans smile a bit.
