The New York Yankees, often active in offseason trade discussions, are not considered frontrunners for Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. Despite initial interest, the Yanks’ farm system and trade assets may not align with the White Sox’s expectations for their All-Star pitcher.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com highlighted the New York Yankees’ earlier attempt to acquire Crochet before the 2024 trade deadline. The White Sox, however, were unmoved by the proposed packages, as their prospects fell short of Chicago’s requirements. Hoch noted that cornerstone prospects Jasson Domínguez and Spencer Jones would theoretically fit the mold, but their trade value hasn’t significantly increased since the summer.

Garrett Crochet Not An Option For Yankees

Garrett Crochet, 25, completed a stellar 2024 season with a 3.58 ERA and an impressive 12.9 strikeouts per nine innings. His All-Star selection further solidified his status as one of the most sought-after arms on the market. Crochet’s blend of youth, left-handed power, and ability to dominate late-game situations make him a coveted asset for contending teams. However, his postseason comments earlier this year—insisting he would only pitch in October for a team that extended him—introduced an additional layer of complexity to his trade negotiations. Now, with the offseason in full swing, Crochet’s market has reignited. Teams like the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and San Diego Padres are rumored to be exploring potential deals.

The Yankees’ system features promising names like Dominguez, ranked 14th overall by MLB Pipeline, and Spencer Jones, but neither seems likely to be moved. Additionally, any potential package could include rising stars like Luis Gil or Austin Wells, who have already made significant impacts at the major league level. However, the Yankees seem reluctant to part with their young MLB contributors, especially after a 2024 campaign that saw them reach the World Series. This reluctance puts the Yanks at a disadvantage compared to teams with both stronger farm systems and more flexibility in trading established players. The White Sox reportedly seek a mix of top-tier prospects and proven MLB talent, a price the Yankees might not be willing, or able, to pay. For now, Bombers fans may have to look elsewhere for bullpen reinforcements as they watch Crochet’s future unfold.

The Juan Soto sweepstakes are heating up as the superstar outfielder begins meeting with potential suitors. The Boston Red Sox were among the first teams Soto sat down with, reportedly leaving a strong impression on the slugger. While specific contract terms were not discussed during the meeting, Soto was said to be “impressed” by Boston’s vision.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays have also emerged as strong contenders, signaling their willingness to compete aggressively for Soto’s services. Meanwhile, the Yankees remain a pivotal player in these discussions. Reports suggest that they are prepared to offer a contract exceeding 13 years and an annual average value (AAV) of over $40 million, surpassing Aaron Judge’s landmark deal.
