The New York Yankees, after weeks of speculations and link-up rumours, materialised a significant trade over the past weekend. Jazz Chisholm Jr was traded from Miami Marlins in exchange of three prospects, including catcher Agustin Ramirez. Chisholm stayed over to watch Marlins final game before heading to Boston on Sunday.

Jazz Chisholm Jr joined the New York Yankees roster a day after his trade was finalised. And interestingly, manager Aaron Boone penciled him directly in the starting lineup for the series finale against Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, Chisholm shared his heartwarming take on donning the pinstripes after years of adoring the franchise.

On the eve of Sunday’s series finale against the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees mid-skid addition Jazz Chisholm Jr arrived at Fenway Park just 90 minutes before the first pitch was thrown. He flew down after getting traded from the Miami Marlins, and upon consultation with manager Aaron Boone, the outfielder was included in the starting lineup straightaway. Jazz was penciled at center field and managed to get a hit on debut before stealing a base and scoring a run in the Yank’s 8-2 win over the Red Sox. That being said, Chisholm’s debut experience was surreal as he got emotional when recalling his Yankee heroes in the first interview. “I think it’s every kid’s dream to play for the New York Yankees,” he said.

The outfielder added that growing up, Yankee legends Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez were his heroes. And now, to don the same uniform as them is nothing short of a surreal dream. Jazz added that driving into Fenway Park, he was excited to join a new team, and his teammates were equally hyped to welcome him onboard. Notably, although Jazz Chisholm Jr played center field in his debut game, he is expected to be moved infield, given the lack of production at third base and second base. Moreover, despite playing the last two seasons at center field, Jazz is open to a move to infield. He made it to the All-Star as a second baseman in 2022 and hit 14 homers, 45 RBI, and a .254 batting average on the plate. This year as well, Chisholm is chasing a career-high runs scored tally. Before the trade was announced, he was hitting .249 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs for the Marlins.

Meanwhile, in an interesting turn of events, Jazz Chisholm Jr chose no.13 for him ahead of his debut for the New York Yankees. When asked to reveal the reason for the choice, Jazz said he wanted a single digit number. But due to significant number of retired jerseys, he couldn’t find a right fit.

Moreover, Jazz Chisholm adored Alex Rodriguez as a kid and hence no.13 felt the obvious choice. “It was only right to find the number that I adored as a kid, watching A-Rod,” Chisholm said. That being said, Jazz Chisholm Jr is expected to be Yankees everyday starter for the remainder of the season, possibly at infield.
