As per recent reports, Draymond Green has stated that the Warriors are now a poor defensive team, which is putting it mildly. Also, he pointed out that he is unable to find the commitment for the defense within the team. Likely, as per Dray, that is something Warriors needs to work on, and it will start with him only. With just 106.6 points allowed per 100 possessions, the squad finished second in defensive rating the previous season. Apparently, Golden State has had difficulty playing defense to open the 2022–23 season.

The statistics back up Draymond\’s claim that the Warriors have a poor defensive record thus far this year. Although it was anticipated that Gary Payton II\’s absence would damage the team\’s defense, the problems there go beyond what Payton could do. So far, the Golden State Warriors\’ lack of experience has been blatantly apparent.
The DubNation had a strong offseason and appeared to have a potentially stronger squad than they did during their previous championship campaign. The team still has a lot of challenges to overcome, though. Finding defensive strategies is one of these challenges. Many of the Golden State team\’s veterans have prospered throughout the years. Evidently, the core of this team consists of players like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. However, the team has an outstanding quantity of youth, which also means inexperience.

In terms of opponents\’ effective field goal percentage also, the Warriors are in the bottom ten. These weren\’t exactly the statistics that propelled their defensive success last season. They won their fourth championship in eight years: through defensive rebounding percentage and the opposition\’s free throw rate. But when you look closer, there is a bright side to Golden State\’s struggle to pull together stops. Given the distinctive roster makeup of this club and the numerous shifting rotational factors, it\’s not surprising.
Small-sample team-wide statistics from Golden State suggest that their defensive structure hasn\’t fully crumbled. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, and Green in the starting lineup, opponents have been held to an effective field goal percentage of 47.4. The openers are also excellent at cleaning the defensive glass, and they only incur shooting fouls on a league-average basis. It\’s possible that the younger Warriors players are unaware of Run TMC. However, their defense is beginning to resemble those notoriously poor defensive teams from the late 1980s and early 1990s.
