The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox rivalry dates back to a century ago. A bad trade decision brought about a curse that left bad blood between the two sides. However, some might argue that the intensity of the rivalry has toned down in recent years due to a lack of altercations. But the passion is still intact.

This week, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were scheduled to clash in a four-game series for the last time this season. However, the weather played a huge spoilsport. Subsequently, both teams had to play two doubleheaders. However, these unforeseen circumstances left Yankee captain Aaron Judge largely unaffected.

The recently concluded four-game series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox was heavily impacted by unforeseen weather conditions. Due to excessive rainfall at Fenway Park, the games were rescheduled to dual doubleheaders. While the visitors emerged victorious by 3-1, the back-to-back doubleheaders led to fatigue. However, the Yankee captain, Aaron Judge, seemed rather grateful. He said that such long days are made for Yankees. One has to love the sport and be grateful for the opportunity to don the pinstripes every single day. Especially representing the franchise at Fenway Park against the Red Sox is a different feeling owing to the century-old popular rivalry. Judge certainly made his presence felt in the series finale.

In the top of the second inning, Aaron Judge slammed a home run over center field to bring up his sixth career grand slam. That gave the Yankees an early 5-2 lead, which put the Red Sox under tremendous pressure. Towards the end, prospect Oswald Peraza added insurance runs by scoring a two-run homer in the ninth inning. On the defensive front, Clarke Schmidt had a great night. In a run feast, the pitcher leaked a mere three runs in seven hits while striking out three hitters. Further, the relievers took care of the rest to ensure a series win for their side. Having said that, the series didn’t mean much, as both sides have fallen out of the playoff race. They are tied for the fourth place in the AL-East division.

Meanwhile, ahead of Thursday’s doubleheader, the Boston Red Sox made a bold decision. In the aftermath of an awful season, the team parted ways with general manager Chaim Bloom. While it was devastating for Boston, the Yankee fans certainly enjoyed their plight, especially after securing a series win. The fans mocked the Red Sox front office’s decision.

Many believe that a particular front office change won’t transform the fortunes of the Red Sox. The Yankees will always have the upper hand in the rivalry. Having said that, the Yankees and Red Sox’s fate has been more or less similar. They have collapsed unexpectedly despite spending millions during the off-season. Let’s hope the 2024 season remains kind to these AL-East division rivals.
