Erik ten Hag has finally arrived at Manchester United to take over the reins as the club\’s new manager. He replaced the interim manager Ralf Ragnick who could not lead the Red Devils better than a sixth-place finish in the Premier League table. The Dutch coach was supposed to start a rebuilding phase after his arrival in the United. However, there have been no concrete transfer activities at the club. While the transfer window has opened, ten Hag was expected to reinforce the Old Trafford club by recruiting some star players. The lack of activity has not only frustrated the fans, but it has now started affecting the players as well.
Several reports suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo is thinking of leaving the club because of a lack of transfer activities ahead of the season. The Portuguese national is 37-year-old and has only a few seasons left in him. Thus, Ronaldo would hope to win a few trophies before he hangs his boots, especially in the Champions League. Therefore, the lack of interest in top players\’ signing from the Red Devils might lead Cristiano to look for another side where he has a better chance of winning.
The United have been linked with several players since ten Hag\’s arrival to Old Trafford from Ajax. Star players like Frankie de Jong from Barcelona and Ajax\’s duo Antony & Jurrien Timber have been some of Machester United\’s targets. The club has been in transfer discussions with the respective clubs for a while. However, the Red Devils have not made any concrete moves so far, which has led Cristiano to change his mind. Earlier, in a post-season video, Cristiano Ronaldo said that he was happy to be back at the club and planned to get through his contract.
Where Could Ronaldo Go Next?
The lack of transfer enthusiasm from the United is not sitting well with Cristiano, who remains the biggest star at the club. Thus, the Portuguese national is planning to exit the club, which gave him immense recognition. He returned to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021 after being linked with the club. The 37-year-old was hoped to lead Machester United back to its glory as he scored 18 goals in the season. However, the team could not respond to Ronaldo\’s energy and eventually finished sixth in the Champions League.
Thus, the current transfer situation at the club might have changed Ronaldo\’s plans to continue with the club. The United center forward is currently reevaluating his option. Meanwhile, some Italian and Portuguese clubs have shown their interest in signing Ronaldo this summer. However, many teams might already be out of the race as Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly earns £385,000 per week. Thus, unless he agrees to lower his wage, many of the clubs will not be able to afford him.
