Red Bull Boss Christian Horner enjoyed success in F1 after he persuaded Adrian Newey to join his team and leave McLaren. Adrian Newey had a great time with Williams as well as McLaren. But after he joined Red Bull, the history of F1 changed for good. Since, Newey is part of Red Bull, the Austrian team has won five constructor’s titles and six driver’s world championships.
The only team that has a better record than Red Bull is its arch-rival Mercedes F1 team, with Toto Wolff as their boss. But who knows, with time, Red Bull can catch up to the record of Mercedes. Red Bull Boss Shared The Story Of Adrian Newey And His Friendship
The Red Bull boss recently shared the story of how he approached Adrian Newey to join his team in a podcast called ‘Talking Bull.’ It was late 2005 when Horner chalked out a plan to get Newey in Red Bull. At first, he talked to the late co-founder of Red Bull GmbH, Dietrich Mateschitz. Later he spoke to Helmut Marko about a good chance that he might get Newey on the team. But Christian Horner says the real trick was to bond with both Adrian and his then-wife to persuade him to join Red Bull. Horner credits David Coulthard for playing an anchor role in introducing Newey to him.
The former British racer knew Adrian Newey from McLaren and Williams days. DC had driven for the McLaren F1 team, where he got to know Newey very well. Hence, it was essential for Horner that DC helps him get to have a meeting with Newey. But when Adrian Newey and Christian Horner started talking, it seemed obvious that they have a lot in common. Red Bull boss says that it was a big deal to bring Newey into the team. Horner mentioned, “When Adrian joined hands with us, that is when everyone else started taking us seriously.” Red Bull boss and Newey had the same outlook. Hence, it was not hard to build a rapport with each other. That same bond is still intact even after 18 years.

Christian Horner says that whatever happens on the grid but the deep, meaningful friendship the two guys share means more than anything else. They are colleagues at work, but more than that, they are buddies. Red Bull boss cherishes the fact that Adrian Newey is the godfather to one of his children. That is proof of a special bond for life.
The friendship between the team principal and the chief technical officer of Red Bull is incredibly important to them. They have worked for a long time and have enjoyed each other’s company.
