Christian Horner Compares Max Verstappen To Veteran Fernando Alonso Amid Retirement Statements

Max Verstappen is a gift to Christian Horner and his Red Bull Racing team. Horner, over the years, has seen a lot of racers achieve greatness on the grid. Hence, the Red Bull boss can sense that not only having the fastest car will help a team win titles. The team needs a driver who has the passion and skill to do so. That is why any team boss would treasure Max Verstappen. The Dutchman is only 25 and is already a two-time F1 champion. He has a long way to go and will break many records along the way.

Verstappen’s fans know that winning is the biggest motivation for the Dutchman. Nothing is more important to him than securing first place in any competition he takes part in. Max Verstappen credits his father, Jos, with instilling that zeal for winning every time he is on track. But Christian Horner says that he loves racing on and off the track. During the off-season, Max Verstappen likes to participate in virtual races. Recently, Verstappen took part in the 24 hours of Le Mans.

But the Red Bull boss Christian Horner does not see Max Verstappen continuing to race in Formula One even when he is 40 or more. Horner compares Max with Fernando, saying, “I don’t see Max racing in F1 when he is 40 like Alonso. He is firm about what he wants to do in life and won’t do anything that does not excite him anymore.” Horner says that the passion for racing drives Verstappen every time. Verstappen is an expert in the virtual racing world. He runs the GT cars as a hobby and, unlike other drivers, likes to play FIFA PlayStation and other games virtually before every Grands Prix more than taking a nap.

Horner also raises doubt about how long this desire to race is going to last for Max Verstappen. Red Bull Boss says, “As long as he has got the fire burning for racing, Max will continue what he is doing. But it depends on individuals to draw the curtains in their lives.” However, Christian Horner must not think about Max Verstappen quitting any time soon. As the team and the driver extended their contract, which will last till 2028. Hence, Max has a long way to go in his F1 racing career, especially with Red Bull.

Verstappen has been part of Formula One for a long time now. He debuted back in 2015 with Alpha Tauri, previously known as Toro Rosso. It has been eight years since then, but he is only 25 now. Max Verstappen already secured 22 pole positions, 37 GP wins, 80 podium finishes, plus two driver’s titles and counting.

The way things stand at the moment, Max is on the verge of hattrick victories in driver’s title championships. No other team looks close enough to Christian Horner’s team in terms of the speed of their car. Max Verstappen’s biggest challenge this season might come from his teammate, Sergio Perez.
