LeBron “King” James, arguably one of the greatest basketball players of all time, has achieved numerous records and milestones in his 20-year-long NBA career. He has solidified his legacy as one of the sport’s true icons over the past two decades. However, last season wasn’t kind to him as his team Los Angeles Lakers, was swept in the conference finals.

The heavy loss did take a toll on LeBron James, as he immediately threatened retirement. Fortunately, after careful contemplation in the off-season, James announced his comeback for the 21st season. He is set to represent the Lakers for one more season. Meanwhile, yet another all-time league-high record is awaiting the veteran in the upcoming NBA season.

One of the oldest active players in the NBA, LeBron James, scripted history last season. He surpassed Kareem Abdul Jabbar to become the highest point scorer in the NBA. And further elevated his stature as the sport’s greatest player at the same time. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old will have another opportunity to script history and top yet another league standings. James can become NBA’s leading triple-double scorer in the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season. The record is currently held by former Lakers legend and Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, with 138 triple-doubles. Whereas James stands at 107 triple-doubles. He just needs 31 more to script history for the second time. Moreover, the veteran is expected to claim this record in the next season itself.

While chasing milestones is an impressive feat, LeBron James will meet a lot of expectations next season. Last season, he narrowly escaped foot surgery which affected his run on the court. Moreover, age also played a factor. Being the senior most respected member of the team, LeBron will carry the Lakers torch for the championship run in the 2023-24 season. It could probably be his last year with the Lakers, considering his future plans. Hence, James will find added responsibilities on his shoulders. Having said that, the veteran has been in the NBA business long enough to know the sport in and out. He is no alien to setbacks and has a reputation for staging inspiring comebacks. Hopefully, the Lakers get to see the beast side of LeBron in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have begun looking for their future without LeBron James’ presence. James has committed to his 21st NBA season. However, beyond that, the veteran is unlikely to continue with the storied franchise. He wants to play with his elder son Bronny James before calling it quits on his decades-long career.

To fulfill that last dream, LeBron James will have to move away from the Lakers. Amid this, LA’s front office has already started grooming James’ successor. Anthony Davis recently signed a three-year extension contract and is expected to lead LA in the near future. If and when LeBron decides to call it quits, Davis will certainly take his place.
