The New York Yankees suffered its seventh consecutive series loss on Sunday as they dropped the three-game rivalry with the Boston Red Sox despite a strong comeback in Game 2. With that, the Yanks record in the past 22 games haven fallen to 6-16 which is the worst stretch of the year.

That being said, on Sunday, despite Luis Gil’s one-run outing in the rubber game, the hitters failed to step up and stayed scoreless. DJ LeMahieu, the veteran third baseman, once again left the fans disappointed and amid a concerning stretch, questions over his health have begun to raise.

DJ LeMahieu Says He’s Fine Despite Aaron Boone Raising Questions On His Fitness

Veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu’s return from the injured list has not been as smooth as he and the New York Yankees had hoped. After recovering from a foot injury, DJ made his season debut in the last week of May, and since then, he’s just had three extra-base hits in 103 at-bats. His slugging percentage (.210.) is only worse than Martin Maldonado of the White Sox and Jose Abreu of the Astros amongst all position players with at least 110 plate appearances. On Sunday, DJ hit a double to right center with two outs in the sixth inning. However, the Bombers couldn’t convert the scoring opportunity, and LeMahieu was left stranded at second base.

Interestingly, Aaron Boone suggested that DJ LeMahieu might be a little beat up from his foot injury, which could be a big factor contributing to his slump. However, LeMahieu completely scrapped the narrative by confirming that he was fine and healthy. “I felt good [Saturday], but the results haven’t been there, and that’s hard,” LeMahieu said. The veteran, who turns 36 next week, added that the slump has been frustrating, and there’s nothing he can do except keep working hard behind the scenes in the cage. Also, DJ refused to entertain the idea of a lack of rehab games potentially restricting his movement. He argued that during COVID, his summer camp was cut short. Yet he came back fine and healthy into the season. Overall, the Yankees veteran insisted that he is close to a breakout. While it doesn’t show in the numbers, the veteran is beaming with confidence.

Struggling Clay Holmes Joins Aaron Judge, Juan Soto At All-Star Game

In a surprising announcement, New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes was named to the American League’s All-Star roster on Sunday. Its his second All-Star appearance in past three season. He will join his teammates Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in Texas on July 17. Holmes started the year with a 20-game scoreless stretch before falling off the bandwagon.

“This place means a lot to me. To be able to represent the team is something I don’t take lightly,” Clay Holmes reacted to his All-Star selection. Notably, the selection did leave Holmes a little surprised as his past few weeks haven’t been that great. He has allowed 11 hits, eight earned runs, and a pair of homers in the last 6.2 innings.
