This off-season, the New York Yankees put extra stress on bolstering outfield depth. In 2023, the team faced a revolving door in the left and center field after injuries took a heavy tool. Thus, for the year 2024, the team wanted to possess an extended depth to tackle injury concerns.

In a first off-season move, the Yankees traded Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. With Aaron Judge and Jasson Dominguez already in the fold, the Bronx Bombers deemed the depth enough to tackle any adversities. However, in a fresh off-season move, the front office reportedly re-signed a 30-year-old outfielder they initially axed mid-season in 2023.

Yankees Reportedly Agree To A Minor League Contract With Greg Allen!

Sports Illustrated

In a surprising off-season move, the New York Yankees have re-signed outfielder Greg Allen in a minor league contract. Notably, this will be Allen’s third stint with the Bronx Bombers. He initially joined the franchise in 2021 and featured in a total of 15 games. Allen was later acquired by the San Diego Padres before eventually landing with the Boston Red Sox. Having said that, the Red Sox traded the outfielder to the Yanks back in May 2023. Allen was promoted to the big leagues in the wake of injury concerns. He played 22 games before falling prey to a right hip flexor strain injury, which led to a two-month-long absence. Eventually, the Yanks designated him for assignment in August to make room for youth on the 40-man roster.

Regardless, Greg Allen’s life has come full circle once again as the former has rejoined the Yankees ahead of the 2024 season. However, the outfielder must keep his expectations in check. With an overflowing depth, the Bombers have no space for an extra outfielder on the 40-man roster. Thus, for the time being, Allen will have to serve in the Triple-A affiliate Yankee team. Unless and until a widespread injury outbreak causes havoc in the Yankee clubhouse, Greg Allen shouldn’t be expecting a call-up this coming season. Having said that, the Yanks outfield lineup for the coming season will consist of Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo. Trent Grisham and Jasson Dominguez will come off the bench as and when necessary. Also, when healthy, Giancarlo Stanton could split time between right field and DH.

Aaron Judge Teases Fans With Awesome Off-Season Grind

Meanwhile, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge is gearing up for the 2024 season in style. He recently shared a video of him batting in a cage. Judge focused on getting his command and stride right. He hit a few balls and looked in great shape. Not to forget, the captain is coming off a major injury scare.

Regardless, Aaron Judge looked in great shape. It’s highly unlikely the slugger will encounter any setbacks in the 2024 season. Having said that, the Yankees need Judge to be in the best shape possible for the upcoming season. His contributions to the run production will largely determine the club’s postseason qualification odds. Spring training will commence in two weeks, and Judge seems focused on getting ready in time for opening day.
