Aaron Judge was named the New York Yankees captain following his groundbreaking extension in the 2022 off-season. He was tasked to shape the future of the franchise and lead them to the 28th World Series title. However, Judge’s captaincy tenure began on a disastrous note.

The New York Yankees crashed out of playoff following a 82-80 season in 2023. While the redemption story in 2024 appeared to be headed into the right direction in the first two months, the Yanks have officially lose the plot with an embarrassing losing streak. And now, to inject the sense of urgency within the players, MLB analyst has urged Aaron Judge to take charge.

The New York Yankees captain, Aaron Judge, holds a calm personality on and off the field, as he likes to have a nurturing environment where players don’t feel much pressure. He gives everybody the space to be themselves and express themselves to the best of the captaincy with the utmost freedom. However, these are testing times for the club, and Boomer Esiason does not agree that Judge’s leniency is the right approach to snapping the losing streak. In his latest radio episode, Boomer argued that several Yankee players have gotten comfortable in the field and are dogging difficult payers. Basically, he accused them of shying away from responsibilities.

Hence, Boomer Esiason suggested that Yankees leadership will need to step in at some point to hold the slacking players accountable and inject a sense of urgency. While manager Aaron Boone should be the one to take action, Boomer says Aaron Judge is the right person for the job. It’s because he is a great player in tremendous form. “You’re the captain for a reason. After a while, you have a symptom of the team that has taken over in this losing that is going on,” Boomer said. The radio host added that Judge is the person who holds the power to go to each player and call out their shortcomings. He needs to inspire his teammates to do better out on the field, considering what’s at stake. It remains to be seen if Aaron Judge ends up being ‘the captain’ fans envision him to be.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge reacted to the New York Yankees losing streak and revealed that it’s a long season and every team is bound to witness such tough spells every now and then. However, what’s important for them as a team is to find ways to come out, which will essentially define them as a team.

“You gotta get beat down a little bit to kinda see what you’re made of and we’re going to find out real soon,” Judge said following series loss to Reds. That being said, time is running out for Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees for self-discovery. With All-Star break approaching, its important the Yanks regroup, introspect and come out stronger in the second half.
