The New York Yankees have been enjoying a great start to the 2024 season. After what happened last year, the fans almost lost hopes to see the team perform like this. In 2023, the NY side could not make the postseason. It was the first time since 2016 that the 27-time World Series champions failed to make the postseason. Moreover, they finished with a terrible 82-80 record and in fourth place of the American League East division. On top of that, the Bronx Bombers had the second-worst batting average. Moreover, they were only better than the nine-time World Series champions, the Oakland Athletics. Hence, the 2023 season was a season they would like to forget. But it is not that easy as the wound is still very fresh for them.

However, the NY side is making amends this season as they are dominating their American League division. Moreover, they have the best bullpen and pitchers with the best ERA so far in the league. Despite the absence of Gerrit Cole, the pitchers have done a decent job for the Yankees so far. However, in the ongoing four-game series against the Seattle Mariners, the pitchers really let the team down. Moreover, the Yankees did something in the last couple of games that they have not done all season.

Yankees Broke The Hearts Of The Home Fans In Back To Back Games

On Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners won 6-3 against the NY Yankees. As a result, the visitors are enjoying a 2-0 lead in the four game series. Unlike in the previous games this season, the pitchers let the team down. On Monday, it was the closer Clay Holmes who blew it for the team and for Marcus Stroman. The new starter of the Yankees had a great outing in Game 1 where he pitched eight innings. It was his longest since he became a Yankee. However, Stroman’s efforts went in vain as Holmes gave away four runs since he came in the ninth inning. Finally, the Mariners won 5-4 on Monday and followed it by a 6-3 win on Tuesday.

As a result, they handed the Yankees their first back to back losses at home this season. So far, the NY side still has the best record in the American League. According to Katie Sharp of Stathead, before Tuesday’s game, the Yankees were the only Major League team without back to back losses at home in 2024. Nevertheless, things still look good for the Yankees in the standings. Now, they just need to find the winning momentum again after two straight home losses.

The Bronx Bombers Are Still Number One In AL East

Despite losing back to back games against the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees are 33-17. They are still at the top of the American League East division. Moreover, the Baltimore Orioles are 1.5 games behind the NY side. The Pinstripes have not won a World Series since 2009. But the Yankees Nation feels that as the offense is so strong with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, it is their best chance to win the “Big Dance.”

Moreover, the latest good news for Aaron Boone’s side is that the ace pitcher Gerrit Cole started to pitch during live batting practice. Before the end of June, the NY side can have their ace back in the lineup. Then, they will feel complete. But at present, they must focus on tomorrow. Nestor Cortes will start for them. They must win Game 3 to keep hopes alive of saving the series.
