The New York Yankees were in Williamsport this weekend to support the Little League event. The major league players, including captain Aaron Judge and generational star Juan Soto, interacted with the kids while playing fun games to spend time as well. Amid this, the Yanks added a touch of youth to the roster.

As per MLB guidelines, teams are allowed to have an extra 27th man on the roster for special event games. Hence, the New York Yankees used the empty spot to recall a top prospect from the minor leagues. The Martian, who has been struggling with injuries for a year, finally got to make his season debut.

Ahead of the series finale against the Detroit Tigers, the New York Yankees recalled top outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez as the 27th man from Triple-A minor league. Dominguez, who has been battling multiple injuries for nearly a year, made his season debut on Sunday and went 4-for-0 with three strikeouts. After an underwhelming debut, Jasson was sent back to Triple-A as the 27th spot was open only for the Tigers series. Regardless, the short cameo was an encouraging sign for the Yanks. Despite having Tommy John surgery and oblique strain in less than a year, Dominguez appeared fit and ready on the plate. His swings were powerful, but the opposition pitchers were equally effective.

“Every time I come up here, it’s a blessing. It’s an honor to be here,” Jasson Dominguez said on his season debut. The kid added that roster promotion is out of his control. All he can do is continue the grind in minor league and focus on playing to the best of his potential. Meanwhile, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone also had good things to say about Jasson. He revealed that Domiguez’s swings have gotten better in the past two weeks, and he continues to be an active option for outfield depth. However, for now, the Yanks have no empty space to accommodate the Martian. Despite Alex Verdugo’s outfield struggles, the Yanks plan on keeping him for the rest of the season. Nonetheless, Jasson Dominguez’s exile in the minor league won’t last long. As the roster expands in September, the Yanks can recall the prospect in two weeks.

The New York Yankees lost the series finale to the Detroit Tigers 3-2 into extra innings on Sunday. With a 1-0 lead, Yanks closer Clay Holmes blew the save to allow the game-tying run before the Tigers added two more runs in extra innings to take away the game from the Bombers’ clutches.

Having said that, New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge was all prise for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal despite the series defeat. Skubal pitched six innings on Sunday and allowed just 1 earned run. “He’s the best pitcher in the game right now,” Judge said. The captain acknowledged that Skubal is in different league and its not fun facing him.
