The New York Yankees promised the fans some significant changes are coming. It sounded nice after the team had a horrible season in 2023. Moreover, Brian Cashman said they were in the market looking for two lefty sluggers and a pitcher. They got Soto along with Trent Grisham and Verdugo.
Now, the Yankees Nation waits to see if they can land Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese pitcher is the best free agent available in the market at present. It would be great news if they could land Yamamoto. But the latest Yankees rumor is a bit weird. It seems they are looking for another DH, maybe to replace Giancarlo Stanton.
Why Yankees Are Looking For Another DH When They’ve Stanton?
Recently, Francys Romero, a Cuban insider, revealed that the Yankees showed interest in Jorge Soler and have checked in this week. However, Romero also said the Seattle Mariners are the top contenders to land Soler. Other than, the Yankees and the Mariners, the Miami Marlins are also in line to offer a deal to Soler. Moreover, Soler can hack it in the left side. But he is predominantly a designated hitter from his heart. The Yankees already have one.
Does this mean, Stanton is ready to pack his bags saying, “We had a good run.” But recently, the manager said it was essential for Giancarlo Stanton to slim down, and that’s what he has been focusing on. Then what just happened that the organization just thinks about replacing him. Soler has a pretty impressive resume with a World Series MVP back in 2021 in Atlanta. In 580 plate appearances last season, Soler hit 38 home runs with a 128 OPS+. He also had a palatable 141 Ks.
The Pinstripes Have Made Some Significant Changes This Offseason Already
They could not make the postseason for the first time since 2016. In the last few seasons, the team has not gone very far. It has been a really long time since the Bronx Bombers won the World Series. The last time they did was in 2009. But the Pinstripes are the most successful team in the major league. They have won the World Series a record 27 times. However, the 27-time champions have not made it to the “Big Dance” since 2009. Moreover, they could not even qualify for the next round this year. It did not help in boosting the morale of the Yankees Nation at all.
However, the Bronx Bombers said even they have been fed up with how they have been performing in the last few seasons. Hence, they would make big changes this offseason. And what could have been bigger than landing one of the best hitters in the league’s history? After finishing the 2023 season with the second-worst batting average, they needed some firepower. Who’s better than Juan Soto to talk about star power? Like Scott Boras, Soto’s agent, says, he is an offense in itself. Now, the Yankees have what it seems to be a solid outfield lineup – Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, Alex Verdugo and so on.
