The New York Yankees had a rough season last year. It was not some season they could hope to go through in recent times. In the last 30 years, the Bronx Bombers never had a worse record at the end of a regular season. Last year, the NY side finished with an awful 82-80 record. Moreover, the 27-time champions had the second-worst batting average in 2023. The only team with a worse hitting average than the Bombers was the Oakland Athletics. In the end, the NY side did not make it to the postseason last year. For the first time since 2016, the Yankees failed to make it to the postseason. It was a wake-up call for the organization.

They needed to make significant changes this offseason. And they did as they brought in outfielders like Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham. As a result, the outfield and the offense look way stronger than before. But still, there are players with injury histories. Last year, the Yankees had one of the longest Injured List. But there was one hitter who was still pretty consistent. It was Gleyber Torres. But he has been quite often linked with trades that the Yankees might make. As per a New York Post article, 2024 would be the last Yankees season for Torres.

Will 2024 Be The Last For Gleyber Torres As A Yankee?

Another offseason gone by, and Gleyber Torres is still a Yankee. Last season was brutal, as the IL was pretty long. Key players, veterans, and youth could not stay healthy for long. Meanwhile, there was one slugger who had an impressive 2023 season. It was Gleyber Torres. He has been included in trade talks a number of times and on different offseasons. But he somehow still makes it as a Bronx Bomber. Despite the team facing trouble with poor batting and offense, Torres was on song last season. He was the most consistent hitter of the NY side in 2023.

Torres just kept getting better. The second baseman of the Yankees made sure he faced fewer strikeouts. Excluding the 2020 shortened season due to COVID, he had a career-low 98 strikeouts in 2023. Moreover, Torres also drew 67 walks, it was a career-high performance too. Adding to that, he hit 25 home runs with .273 and had an OPS of .800. On top of that, Torres played in a career-high 158 games. Hence, with his much-improved performance, the Yankees can get more value if they trade him next winter possibly. Perhaps Torres is entering the swan-song season with the Yankees this year.

Yankees Have Depth In Their Outfield This Year

After a horrible 2023 season, the front office decided to make some significant changes. In the end, they landed the big fish from the San Diego Padres. As Juan Soto joins the outfield with Aaron Judge, the offense automatically looks pretty solid. Then, the Yankees got Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham to complement the Judge-Soto duo.

On top of that, Giancarlo Stanton, if healthy, can be a real asset to the team. Then, DJ LeMahieu might just get the leadoff position. Aaron Boone has been going through back and forth about what the batting order looks like. Hence, without Torres, the Yankees can manage pretty well, as it seems at the moment.
