Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton holds the record for most wins ever achieved in Formula One’s history. However, the Mercedes ace is approaching 1000 days without a win as in F1 as the past two seasons have been nothing but a nightmare for Lewis.

Mercedes has won only two races in two years, both coming from George Russell. Moreover, with Lewis Hamilton bidding farewell to Mercedes by the end of the year, he is desperate to get a victory and close the curtains on a high. Interestingly, with the improved machinery, team principal Toto Wolff has promised Lewis the fairytale ending he strives for.

Lewis Hamilton saw his teammate George Russell win the Austrian Grand Prix in the aftermath of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’ brutal crash on lap 64 while he settled for P4 after sustaining significant floor damage. That being said, while this is Russell’s second win in the last two years, Hamilton hasn’t won a race since the 2021 Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. Moreover, this year has proved to be the worst phase of his 18-year-long career. He is not only struggling with the pace of the car but also facing trouble adjusting to the unpredictable rear wing. However, before Lewis heads to Ferrari next year, team principal Toto Wolff has promised him a victory.

After the Austrian Grand Prix, Toto Wolff acknowledged that Lewis Hamilton was going through a bad spell, and as a racing driver, that can take a toll on his mental health. However, Wolff backed Lewis’ driving capabilities. “Things have come together. He had a brilliant race in Barcelona, so we have just got to dive through this,” Wolff said to the media. Not only that, the team principal promised Hamilton a win before his tenure with Mercedes came to an end in 13 more races. Notably, Mercedes has covered a lot of ground since introducing a front-wing upgrade in Canada. The German manufacturers attained a podium in each of the following three races. Moreover, had Lewis Hamilton not sustained a floor damage, he would have surely fought for a podium in Austria. Hence, given the recent surge in performance, the victory drought should end soon for the seven-time world champion.

Lewis Hamilton stunned Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff by abruptly announcing his move to Ferrari just a day before the news got leaked into the media. Wolff was taken a back by the announcement’s timing. However, he firmly believes that the duo are not divorced as friends. Wolff says he spent 12 years with Lewis and built great trust and camaraderie.

Toto Wolff added that he understands Lewis Hamilton’s perspective as Mercedes is not doing well, and perhaps the timing is right for him to explore other avenues on the final stretch of his career. “For 12 years, we’ve been friends and allies and brothers in crime, and he’s got to be competitive in the car, but we haven’t divorced as friends,” Wolff said.
