The New York Yankees can look back at how they started the current season and feel both encouraging and sad. In the first couple of months, the NY side was dominating the league, especially the American League East division. Moreover, they looked good to make the postseason this year and even make it to the “Big Dance.” The last time they made the World Series was back in 2009. That was the last time they won it. Now, it has been 15 years and the title drought is still on. However, the way the ongoing season started, it seemed like the Bronx Bombers might be able to end the drought now. But then their performance since June 13 has let them and the fans down.

They went 6-16 in June. In July, they had an even worse start, going 4-8. But then, the All-Star break happened, and fans thought it might help the team feel rejuvenated. However, even after the Midsummer Classic, the struggle continues for the 27-time World Series champions. Now, it seems like the team will look for some trades to turn things around before the deadline.

Yankees Might Reunite With An Ex-Pitcher

The 2024 MLB trade deadline is around the corner, and the Yankees need to trade for some of the top pitchers out there. They need some hurlers to back the offense. It might not be as easy as it seems. They might not be able to land the best options due to their non-sustainable payroll. There are two hurlers who could enhance the Bronx Bombers at present, they are – Tarik Skubal and Garrett Crochet. As per rumors, there have been several teams linked with the two pitchers. Now, the ball is in the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox’s courts. These two franchises will look to get good returns for their two pitchers. Besides Skubal and Crochet, there is another pitcher, as per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, who can be a viable option for the NY side.

It is the ex-hurler of the Yankees, Jameson Taillon, who can re-unite with the Pinstripes. Nightengale suggests that the Yankees and the Chicago Cubs might trade for the pitcher. Taillon had a pretty good time with the NY side. But then, the 27-time World Champions found better options than Taillon. Like the Yankees, the Cubs, too, have been on a slump before the Midsummer Classic. Hence, a trade between the two teams might be beneficial for each other. Brian Cashman might look for pitchers, but the Cubs can find something else that suits their interests.

How Can The NY Side Outrun Their Rivals In Trade Deadline?

The Yankees are desperate to find a suitable option for a pitcher that’s available. Moreover, they must make a move to outrun their rivals in the MLB Trade Deadline. It is not just the “Evil Empire” that’s after Skubal and Crochet. The Los Angeles Dodgers, i.e., the “New Evil Empire,” is also after Crochet. Now, they might do anything to get closer to their target of making the World Series.

But for the Yankees, it might be too costly to pay a hefty sum to the Chicago White Sox. Then, there is their arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox, who are trying to land Taillon. Hence, the Yankees can’t ignore their trade tasks for long anymore. There is a good chance that these rumours can come true.
